My mum sprayed our outdoors plants with bug repellent without letting me know. The bottle claims it’s “safe” to eat after two hours with a good wash, and I cant be sure it was after two hours as I can’t remember when I fed it.
I didn’t wash it because I am lazy and it rains so much here there is no normal reason for me to wash one piece of freshly grown parsley. I do it for things such as the lettuce as bugs like to hide in it, but I’ve never done it for the parsley especially as it was raining bad last night so I felt I didn’t have much reason to.

They seem fine from what I can tell but I am suitably terrified. How would I know if this was causing an issue/going to cause an issue.
It feels like my hearts going to explode, lol.

OK. Take a big deep breath and try to relax.
Can your Mum remember whether she sprayed the parsley plant?
Make sure you watch your piggies closely for any signs of illness, hopefully they will be OK as the spray is designed to be safe(r) for pets.

I don't have any advice/ warning signs to watch out for, but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon.

In case you do need to see a vet, see if you can find the bottle's ingredients list or safety sheet off the company website.

On the back it says it's ok to use on edible plants with no harvest interval, crops can be eaten within hours...and it doesn't list any ingredients toxic to humans. Hopefully it will be OK. I presume they only had a sprig or two?

Signs to look out for in case of issues are probably the same as when they eat anything unusual or not normally eaten - liss of appetite, odd poops, unusual behaviour. Fingers crossed they'll be fine x

Hi

With a little luck you are fine, especially if it is just a very small quantity.

Please see a vet promptly if there are signs of your piggy becoming unwell or lethargic. See a vet or out-of-hours vet promptly and step in with syringe feeding and watering asap. A vet should also be able to tell you whether active charcoal should be used or not. If you have to see a vet, please take the bottle so they can have a look at the toxins if wished.

Fingers crossed!

Hi, thanks for your replies.
My mum said she didn’t put on the parsley a while after I made this post, but it was still sprayed near it, so I feel slightly more calm but the issue is my older boy is bloated.

It’s not unusual for him to get bloated out of no where, but it’s really not great timing. I didn’t give him his veggies and gave him a stomach massage and his belly seemed to relax but he still didn’t seem himself, he was reluctant to move, not particularly lethargic, he just preferred to sit.
My boys live in a hutch so it’s kind of hard to keep an eye on them but I plan to go out every hour as long as I can stay awake.

I’m really worried he’s slowly dying but there isn’t enough reason or worry to take him to an out of hours vet. I don’t have my license and it’s not the best day for stress as my grandmother passed away this morning (not really relevant, but an emergency vet trip isn’t really on the top of our want to do list).

He’s 5 years old so I have noticed him being more reluctant to move about and wanting to just lie/sit down a bit more even before this, but of course every move is more frightening when another ailment is in play.
It’s just not been a very great day for the whole family and I really can’t take much more right now.

I am sorry you are under so much stress and to hear about your Grandmother. Sending you and your family my very best wishes at such a sad time.

Big hugs 🥰
I don't have any advice for you, but I'm sorry you've had such an awful day with the loss of your Grandma and now this.
I understand you must be feeling really anxious and upset, but try not too worry too much- it's good news that your Mum didn't spray the parsley.
In terms of bloat, I don't know how to help you there. I'm not sure whether this could be linked to the spray or not, but you are doing all you can for him at the moment.

Hi

BIG HUGS

I am very sorry about your stressy and very sad day. If bloating events are recurring and becoming more frequent, please contact your regular vet first thing in the morning.

Your vet will check the heart as well as the tummy. If it is just gassing, please discuss whether you can get a small stash of emeprid or metoclopramide prescribed together with some metacam so you can step in straight away at any time.

Step in with syringe feeding and watering if needed and to the degree needed.

I have just been out to check them again, he seems fine in himself. No signs of dullness, lethargy or anything. I gave his stomach a quick little massage but it didn’t seem he needed it. I think I will leave them for the night, as they were a bit startled that I turned the big light on, haha.
Thank you for your replies and well wishes.

Thank you. When I say frequent I mean maybe 3-4 times a year which isn’t a lot to some but it’s much more than I have ever seen in a pig.
I have been tracking them in my calendar incase it becomes too frequent, but in all honesty he’s always been a kind of gassy pig. When he was younger he was a frequent nervous tooter 😂
Thankfully his bouts seem to settle after one massage, which I continue for a couple more times and remove veg for 48 hours. If it ever becomes anything more I will definitely look into something like this, as I know the vets quite well and I am sure they would be happy to talk over some sort of “stash”.

Thanks again x

So sorry to hear that you have lost your Grandma. Have a hug
Just sending you a gentle hug. Sounds like you could do with one x
Thank you ❤️

Both boys seem well this morning, aside from baby Reggie running into everything he can with his popcorns.
I understand generally if they had/have ingested anything it may not show up for a while, so I am keeping an eye but trying not to stress too much over it!

 Sorry to hear you lost your Grandma yesterday.

Hopefully everything will be fine with your boys as the spray didn't go directly on the parsley, and also it is pet safe and they wouldn't have eaten that much parsley too.
