My guinea pig winston is 8 months old and i noticed his belly had gotten bigger in the past 2 weeks. His belly has been sort of hard on one side for about a week. He doesn’t seem to be in pain or discomfort and he’s eating as much as he normally would. I’m not sure if it’s bloat or he’s just put on weight because he’s most likely been getting too many snacks while we are quarantined. The vets around me are all closed and i’m not sure where else to go. I’ve been looking at bloating medicine and things that could help get his guts moving but I'm not sure which ones best. If anyone has any advice or help it would be appreciated x

I didn’t think it was a problem having a sort of big belly on one side which is kind of hard because he was eating fine and digby my other pig had put on around 20g aswell so i just thought it was normal but the fact that it is sort of hard is worrying me x

It sounds like he needs a vet diagnosis. If you are in the uk, then all uk vets provide out of hours emergency care (may be at a different surgery though)
Bloat, if that is what it is, can be fatal. He would be becoming very poorly and require urgent vet care (not home treatments)
I would still suggest you seek to see a vet as having a hard one sided belly would be concerning even if it isn’t bloat
Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

It would also be helpful if you can add your location to your profile as it helps us tailor our advice

I just checked and my vet is now open. But it’s a “cat and dog” vet by which i mean they only mostly take dogs and cats. They have seen my guinea pigs before but they never knew what to do. My parents are very afraid of going out as they have health problems but i can try and convince them to let us go. I will take him to the vet as soon as possible but is there anything at home i could do to help him x

I really couldn’t say - we don’t advocate home treatments in any event and you don’t know what is actually wrong with him so there is no way of knowing what would help
