Hi guys I'm new to this, I joined because I'm concerned about my piggie.

On Friday Ronnie had to have his eye removed, it was a success. He come round well the vet said, she said he had a little to eat and I took him home. The Monday previous I had took him to a different Vet and he had gave me baytril oral and loxicom oral because he had an eye infection (sorry I'm telling this back to front). The vet what removed Ronnies eye told me to carry on using them both. 0.5ml every 12hrs for both.

When I got him home he was fine, he ate and did his usual thing. This morning he ate a little bit but after that he has been sleeping and not eating or drinking at all. That was 12-14 hours ago. I can't contact the vet until Monday.

Am I just being paranoid or should I be worried? I can't stop watching him and it's sending me mad.

He is around 4 and half years old, he is a rescue pig and he weighs 1100g I think the vet said, but I can feel his hip bone. The vet said his weight his fine but he was always a chunky pig before the eye infection. :(

Someone please help. Thankyou.

Has he had both doses of Loxicom - I presume that would be first thing Saturday morning and then again late in the evening? All I can think is that he is in a lot of pain from the wound (hardly surprising as it is on his face, poor little boy), and the effects of the loxicom are wearing off quickly. I don't know if his dose could be increased or a stronger painkiller given instead , maybe one of the other more experienced members can help soon. xx

i would maybe get to the vet sunday to check him over, start syringe feeding if he is not eating much.i agree with the above comments, probably needs the analgesia increasing.ensure no secondary infection is there.poor lad looks

Yeah I do it 6 in morning and 6 at night. When I gave him his meds tonight at 6 he still hasn't eaten, I thought it may have took edge off the pain and maybe eat a little.

I will start to syringe feed him but my vet isn't open till 8.30 Monday.,an nearest emergency is 20 miles away and I don't drive. Just wish he'd eat, I want him better xx

I'm sorry you're in such a fix, I can't imagine being unable to drive. Are there any Vets4Pets nearer to you that you could get to tomorrow?

I agree syringe feeding is probably a good idea now, to stop him losing too much weight and his gut stopping working - mushed up pellets if you haven't any recovery food available. Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

No there isn't unfortunately, I've just mushed the pellets. Any advice on how much to give and how many times a day? I will get recovery food Monday when everything is open and I'm at vets xx

I think the Guide I linked above says 3-5ml every 2-3 hours, as he isn't really eating for himself. The guide will tell you everything you need to know, better than I can as it's been written by people with far more experience than me (and I have to go to bed now anyway!). Best of luck, I hope he co-operates with the syringe feeding and the vet on Monday can make him better!

Thankyou for the advice. I'll check it out xx

Update:

He's having little nibbles here and there. Watching him on the sofa while sat on the floor so I can see better. Syringed fed him 2 o Clock and just now before this happened. He seems to be loving the sweetcorn what I cut off the cob for him. Really hope this is him picking up. Never felt so relieved him eating! :yahoo: He's separated from his brother at the minute so I can keep an eye on what he eats and his toilet habits. Fingers crossed for him xx

Aw poor little piggy, hope he picks up after his sweetcorn!
