My Miki underwent an abscess removal and castration this morning - he got home about 4pm. He is still quite out of it, but has nibbles on some food.

However he absolutely stinks of balls. I’m talking a really intense stink, like the sort of stench they release when they drag their butt, but 10x worse. Is this normal..?

Hi!

I've never had this. I hope that it settles down and that your boy has a good recovery. Abscesses really stink, so I hope that it isn't that because ideally the abscess should have come out whole.

Neutering operations: Considerations, post-op care and a successful recovery example

Womble had a bit of an odd smell and it was sort of a mixture of scent glands mixed with a mediciney type of smell but it wasn't too bad and it went after the first day. But this was after standard neuturing not an abscess removal.

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the abscess, as an open abscess does have a terrible smell. Did they lance and drain the abscess or remove the entire capsule? You may want to double check with the vet.

yes that was exactly it! I was so concerned it was UTI or soemthing, because it was pungent - however it went after the first 24-36 hours thankfully!

I also thought that, but the entire capsule had been taken out and I had a good sniff of all of his wound sites and none of it smelt of it.. thankfully he is back to smelling like his normal stinky boar self, rather than the horrific smell!
