Hi all

So last week, my little Cap finally took the big trip to see Kim and Simon at Cat and Rabbit and got the snip! He's doing well recovery wise and for the most part is acting like nothing happened!

However... We have him in a 'recovery' cage away from the others where we can keep an eye on him, but he seems really lonely and any time he hears so much as a tiny chut from our other guineas he wheeks like crazy for them.

I know we have to wait six weeks to introduce him to a female, but should we house him next to them so he can bond or keep him away? He has had a sniff of the girls through the bars, but he got extremely excited and didn't stop gnawing the bars or rumblestrutting, even when we moved them away! Will this behaviour calm down at all?

Also, when he is ready to live with the girls, I already have another neutered boy/girl couple, can they all live next to each other in a split C&C or do we have to keep them more separate?

You can house him right next to the girls. That way, they can get to know each other through the bars. You have to sit through the initial excitement. It will eventually die down to a bearable level, but it also means that he is likely to completely lose the "on"-switch for his brain during intros proper.

I'm sure Cap will be delighted that he can live next to them!

My own neutered boar/sow groups live right next to other, by the way.
