Hey all our boy Nibbler was neutered today and the vet tech said we should remove a bandage but I can’t find it. It says it was for a venous catheter and a video I saw online looks like it should be on his arm somewhere but I can’t locate it. I normally wouldn’t worry but on the sheet they gave us it says call the office immediately if you can’t remove it but they are closed now. I’m attaching the note from the post-surgical care document. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Yeah he’s not letting me look at that area but I can’t feel a bandage. I’m just worried cuz on the sheet it says to call immediately if you can’t get the bandage off. Do you think it’s ok till tomorrow

He’s pretty lethargic but idk could still be from anesthesia, thanks for the advice

Are you sure that there has actually been a bandage to remove for you? If you have doubts, please call the clinic as soon as it opens for confirmation.

A sheet often goes for several - usual larger species - and not necessarily for guinea pigs. I have never had to remove any bandage post op but have been given the odd care sheet where quite a bit of the post op care content didn't apply to guinea pigs but lacked what piggies actually need.

I was given a pre-surgery sheet once that said to starve my pet for 12 hours before surgery which we all know is incorrect as far as piggies are concerned. When I questioned it with the vet she said something along the lines of "of course that doesn't apply to guinea pigs, its just a sheet we give to everyone". It does rather sound like you've been given the same generic type of information.

If you are at all worried, phone your vet.

Have you had a good look inside the carrier he came home in? I have (to my knowledge) only ever had 1 pig have an IV placed during surgery and wasn't told to remove any bandages, I'd assume it was done at the practice. It may be that it was already done but the vet tech wasn't told, so they advised you per the sheet?
