Hi all, I hope I posting this in the right place.

My 2.5 year old Guinea pig Pablo stopped eating about 3 weeks ago. He had surgery to correct both his front and back teeth. About a week after the surgery he was gaining weight and was more interested in food again.

However he suddenly went down hill and his front teeth were angled again. He had these leveled and the vet didn't think his back teeth needed doing again.

Since this time he still isn't showing much interest in food, occasionally eating grass (but very slowly). I think he has got an aversion to eating other things as they hurt him before. The vet can't see anything wrong with his teeth now and was on antibiotics so I don't think he has an infection.

I'm still syringe feeding him very regularly but despite this is gradually losing weight.

I've seen from other posts there are specialist vets for guinea pig dental issues. Are there any close to north Wales? Is there anything else I can do for Pablo?

Thanks very much

Hi!
There are currently two vets in the whole country that we can recommend.
The first is Simon Maddock in Northampton who sees guinea pigs from as far as Edinburgh and Cornwall. He is by far the most experienced dental vet in the country with about 25 piggy dentals every week - that is more than most general vets see in their whole career and many exotics vets in a year. He has saved many pigy lives where the treating vet couldn't help. He is a general vet who sees only cats, rabbits and guinea pigs.

Ellie Whitehead, an exotics vet who practises in Matlock, Derbyshire and who has taken the step to only specialise in guinea pigs about a couple of years ago, has recently been to see Simon Maddock and learn from him how to treat dental guinea pigs.

They are the two vets in the UK who will do conscious dentals but with vet know-how and background.

It IS worth the travel!

Hi, we live in North Wales and we travel to Cat & Rabbit Care Clinic in Northampton for our piggies. Simon Maddock is the best vet for dental piggies in my opinion. He does conscious dental treatments. Many travel from all over the country just to see him for their dental piggies. There is also another vet who has just started doing conscious dental treatment. Her name is Ellie Whitehead and she's in Derbyshire.
