Hello! I am a new guinea pig owner, and, i just got a new guinea pig from petsmart, its often known that they can sell sick pets, but this one seems fine, it runs around, pooping an awful lot, eating and drinking, sleeping, etc. Things that a normal guinea pig does, but, sometimes i seen him wipe his nose, but i thought ""why would my guinea pig be sick when i just got him?"" but today when i picked him up, he sneezed, and snot came out! It wasnt, green or bubly and sticky, it was clear and liquidy, if that matters, here vets are super far, and i wonder if theres anyway i can treat him home before i take him to vets? Plss help x :)

Wiping their noses and ocCasio all sneezing can be normal but only a vet can diagnose and treat any issues. We don’t recommend any home treatments.

Does he live with another guinea pig?

Sadly no, We are getting him a female guinea pig in a few weeks, we wanted him to get used to his home, but then he began this, also, this is the only time snot has come out, and nothing sticks to his nose, and he's breathing just fine

You will only be able to get him a male friend (assuming you have checked the sex of the piggy you currently have and he is indeed male). Please do not try to put a female piggy in the same cage with him as he won’t be neutered.

Bonding needs to be done properly on neutral territory and a successful bond is dependent upon character compatibility

Its always a good idea to get a new piggy vet checked, particularly a pet shop piggy

To add, piggies (particularly ones under four months of age) always need to be kept with another piggy as their social needs are so great. They settle in and relax much better if they are never kept alone.

Okay, thank you, youre very helpful! I'm gonna make a vet appointment for him :) Honestly thank you because i was becoming very scared for him

My Edward often has a snotty nose (clear snot) but he has been vet checked and given the all clear. It will be good if you do have your boy checked over if only for peace of mind :)
