Hello everyone, I have been a guest here many times and have found the threads on here very useful but never made my own account.

My girl is being put down in a couple of days due to terminal cancer. Yesterday it got very cold so i put the radiator on in their room after turning it off during that very hot spell, and within a couple of hours my girl had this grunt sound in her nose.
Her lungs sound clear and she has no other URI symptoms than the nose.

She has made this sound on and off for a couple hours maybe a couple times a year, but not for as long as this. It usually clears up within 1-2 hours.
I tried the boiling water next to the cage and i got nothing.

I likely am going to phone the vets at take her in but I have an appointment for my dog tomorrow and a PTS appointment for her Thursday evening.
I have looked hard on here to see if i could find a similar noise but nothing came up.

She tries to sneeze but it just sounds blocked.
Just wondering if anyone knows what this noise is as she never has any symptoms other than a grumbly nose.

I am just reading up that it can take a couple days for it to kick in, in which point she will be put down.

Should i bother paying for antibiotics, she doesn’t seem really bothered by it.

Sorry to keep replying to myself haha, I do understand the only real resolve would be antibiotics, but given the situation is there anything at all i can do to relieve his symptom.

My family mention vix but it doesn’t sound like something a guinea pig should be dealing with.

I’m sorry to hear this
It’s possible for the dry air of heating to cause this kind of thing. I would keep the hot water next to her cage.
It would be worth you giving the vet a call and see whether they think she needs anything to keep her comfortable for the next couple of days.

No Vicks would not be a good idea.

It sounds quite bad, it is quite disturbing but my parents are not willing to phone the vet.

Can I hold her near the steam from hot water, i’ve tried multiple bowls next to their cage and nothing seems to be working.
