My boy Ziggy has very slightly slanted top incisors. I'm monitoring that and his weight daily to see whether it becomes a problem ( he's not lost weight so far) but from looking at other threads it's probably a problem with his mouth/back teeth and I'm trying to prepare how best can get him the treatment he needs.

I'd love to take him to the Cat and Rabbit but it's a long way and the costs will mount up quickly and I work and the amount of time I have to take off is likely to be too much. I know Ellie at the guinea pig vet in Matlock does conscious dentals and is only 40 miles away, but she's not on the recommended vet list. Does anyone have any experience of dental pigs there?

I think there are quite a few people who have taken their piggie pigs for dentals to Ellie. She doesn’t have the same experience but certainly is your best option. I would monitor for a few weeks and see if you see any downward trend weight wise, if he is eating well then whatever it is might sort it’s self out in that time

Oh thanks for that reassurance. He's going through a ton of grass and fresh forage on my lap as we speak so he's not lost his appetite. Sshh don't tell anyone I'm supposed to be working!

I told the guinea pig vets that I will monitor his weight and incisors and will be in touch if I see a deterioration in either, which she thought was sensible, but Ellie is away on her travels until the end of August so I would have a wait anyway. I might get him registered there anyway, just in case.

I would register Ziggy with her and the C&R, it doesn’t cost anything even if you don’t see them. Good luck I hope it’s nothing to be concerned about 🤞Hay is usually the first thing that stalls with teeth issues

Hope everything works out well for Ziggy
Me too. He's eating a LOT of hay at the moment so I'm hoping it's nothing serious but I was stressing myself trying to see whether he was favouring one side of his mouth. At least I feel that going to Matlock is doable if he needs repeated treatments. He's a real character bless him, at least I don't think he's in pain at the moment.
