Long time no post, which is only a good thing as my two fur babies have been brilliant… until tonight. After being away all day, I came home to the very soiled (standard for Dwight, he’s a messy one who loves nothing more but to stomp in his fresh poop) but bloodied towel, as shown in pic.

The other pics were taken over the course of the next 3 hours - it seems like the blood is occurring when he’s pooping, but the poops themselves aren’t bloody so I don’t think it’s digestion related. My gut is was saying UTI, until the darker clot looking spot appeared.

He’s squealing just before blood comes out so he’s clearly uncomfortable, so I’ve given him some loxicom (prescribed in the past for him by an exotic vet) for the pain. I rang the vet and they said it could be stones but as he’s still peeing, they’ll see him on Jan 2nd as per the bank holiday. They asked to email photos of the blood etc so they can review in the morning, but I’ve just got a bad feeling.

Despite having these moments of pain, he’s fine otherwise. I know Guinea pigs are prey animals but Dwight is very soft and is always very vocal with his discomfort if he has any - he’s had bloat in the past and wants constant cuddles the second he’s under the weather, but he’s acting his normal self. He’s guzzled down all his veg and is making a decent dent in his hay already. His bottle is large so it’s hard to tell how much he’s drank today in particular. I’ve not seen him drink this evening but he’s been prodded and poked so much in my concern that I’d expect him to drink overnight now. He

Does anyone have any advice please on what best to do from here? Part of me knows that my exotic vet will know best, but as a minimum, he seems in a lot of pain. It’s 4.30am here, I’ve just checked on him again and he’s seemingly done a wee which isn’t off-coloured (very very very pale pinkish at best) and he’s having a nap as he would always do at this time.

Am I overreacting, as long as he’s behaving fine? The vet said to watch out for any changes and keep them updated - they want to see him sooner if he stops eating, drinking, or weeing. If possible, I’m looking for a little reassurance that this is good advice 🙈

Sorry for the very, very long one. Thank you lovely community in advance as always 🧡

I’m sorry to hear this.
All you can do, aside from waiting to see the vet, is to switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily so you can monitor hay intake closely - and step in with syringe feeding if weight is lost.

Of course, do call for an emergency vet if things get worse before Tuesday.

Thanks for your reply 🧡 I’m awake stressing but he’s fast asleep! Just typical - they have no idea of the stress they cause 🙈

His weight hadn’t even occurred to me in all of the stress so I’ll do this once he’s awake - thank you!

I’m so sorry to hear that your little one is unwell. My poppy has bladder issues and it is such a difficult thing to deal with. I have to say when she first started getting symptoms she bled so badly ! I honestly first thought a pyometra I was terrified. However when she developed a stone she bled very badly and with clots. But she was in awful amounts of pain, loosing weight and off her food. Keep weighing your little one and monitor very closely for any straining or loss of urine. I really hope the vets can provide some answers for you❤️

Hi, I would follow your vets advise, keep giving him the loxicom and contact them if he changes. He will most likely be fine until you see the vet on Tuesday as the loxicom will be helping him but if in the unlikely event he becomes unable to pass urine he will need to be seen as an emergency

Thanks everyone for your messages - I definitely needed the support and reassurance even more than I thought 🧡

He’s still fine in himself but his urine is definitely a white-red combination now - he’s eating and drinking as normal though, so it could be worse 👏
