Hello! Its been a while since ive been on here, but ive recently encountered a new possible problem with my girl penny. Penny has been known to be picky and refuse some of her veggies from time to time, but along with this the other day i noticed a weird sudden weight gain. She typically stays within the weight range of 790-812g (shes 6 and on the smaller side hence why shes a lower weight range). But when i weighed her, she shot up all the way to 891! Which is a new record weight for her. Normally i would be gleeful to see her on the heavier side knowing her age, this concerned me a bit more. I will admit, i have missed a few weekly weigh ins due to my own personal health issues (long story) so i havent seen if this weight gain was progressive or sudden. I did my routine health check and everything else seems perfectly normal. Her belly feels oddly chubbier, but not tender or hard to the touch. Could any of this be a possible sign of bloating? Or anything else? She ate just fine today and is still eating, drinking, and pooping as normal (i noticed a little less poops then normal but nothing too abnormal). Please let me know your thoughts. I hope I'm just being an over worrying mama but i would like to know if i should watch for any other signs. Thanks so much!

Hi!

Please have her vet checked. Without a hands-on examination our guesses are as good as yours.

A sudden weight gain in older piggies can be due to a a build-up of fluid in the body from a failing heart.
Mild bloating from a tender digestion is also not uncommon.

If things feel slightly different to normal I would suggest a vet visit. It's better to find it's nothing than ignore and end up with a bigger problem.

Ease give us an update when you can.

Hi, sorry for the delayed update. Alright, well i didnt want to panic myself for no reason with my girl so i decided to weigh her daily, watch her water and food intake closely, check her belly daily, and overall just watch her behavior. Overall, she seems to be acting and being perfectly normal. Gobbles up her veggies everyday, is pooping and peeing just as normal, her belly hasnt changed but doesnt seem to be worth any concern, is as active as shes been. Her weight has slowly decreased back to what is her typical weight and hasnt shown any too large flucations to be worried with. Shes 811g the last time i checked and shes due for another weigh in soon today. I'm going to continue my steady watch for another week and if anything seems out of line, i will likely make a vet appointment just to be secure. Thank you for your concerns and i will let you know how my old girl is doing, hopefully shes just having a bit of a rough patch :)
