I just visited the vet for some other issues and he was given antibiotics for a UTI. I told them my concerns (this was before i discovered the scab) and I think they only checked that. In a wellness exam aren't they supposed to exam the whole pig? Now I'm worried they didn't even check the other one properly since I didn't mention anything was wrong with him. That night I held the one with the UTI for a few minutes and discovered yellow scabs and slight inflammation behind his ear. There's not bleeding or anything but the yellow scab was hard and seemed to attach to the hair. I can't believe the vet didnt notice it. I'm not sure if it can be ringworm because I couldn't find any similar pictures. And what should I do about the vet? Would it be right of me to call and get them to recheck the guinea pigs?. I attached the images below. Does it look like ringworm to you guys?

Unfortunately we cannot diagnose online (it could be anything, from mild irritation to a parasitic infection), and I would certainly get him back to the vet for another check up. Only a vet can confirm ringworm with a small skin scraping. Definitely give the vet a call.

When one of mine did develop ringworm, I followed the wonderful guide on here to the letter:

Ringworm: Hygiene, Care And Pictures

You have to be strict when it comes to ringworm, but you can rid of it for good.

Best of luck for the vet appointment, do keep us posted!

Have they been itching more than usual and is it in a place they could scratch themselves? If so it could be mites. I’m treating my piggies for mites when one of them had red, sore patches on his feet. Also if their immunity is low because of the UTI then mites can surface. I’d get the vet to take another look. If it is mites it’s easy to treat😊.

Hi!

It doesn't look like ringworm to me - there is no white exudate crust, for instance. Please compare with the pictures of the onset of ringworm at the end of the ringworm link in the previous post.

Guinea pigs have a bald patch behind each ear. If you can find a symmetric patch behind the other ear, then there is no worry. If the bald area is not symmetric, then please have it vet checked. Unfortunately your pictures make it impossible for me to see where exactly the area is located.
Please accept that we cannot diagnose (nor are we qualified to) just from a picture; especially not when a hands-on examination is needed.
