Hi all

We have 2 new girls from a rescue. They were apparently treated for lice just after they were brought in and we were told they were clear when we brought them home.

I reached out to the rescue to let them know that the girls are settling in fine and got a response saying they may still have lice.... not impressed!

We've had guineas for many years but never had to deal with this before, I can't see anything noticeable on them but they're still quite skittish and nervous so it's hard to get a proper look. Our existing pig doesn't seem herself all of a sudden (they're living side by side currently).

My main question is:

Do I need to visit the vet to ensure we purchase the right treatment? If they were indeed treated and it's been ineffective could that suggest it wasn't the correct treatment previously?

Hi

I am very sorry. Some rescues are better than others; it is a totally unregulated field unless they have worked up to charity status.

Some strains of lice can however be very persistent even after a full course and hard to get on top of. Please read the link in the first response.
