Hello. My sweet girl Alfie is 6 years old. Since her cage mate died in November she gradually started losing weight but stopped from 870 to 770. And then suddenly she dropped to 700 last week. She was doing a little movement with her mouth when eating and was refusing her pellets so I thought it must be dental.
We made a vet visit and she was prescribed Meloxicam and probiotics. She is not eating her pellets so I feed her around the clock. She eats her hay, pea flakes and drinks water. She was eating carrots and peppers but she stopped since yesterday. We went to a different vet who performed a better exam. So the both vets looked at her teeth and there's no problem there. She doesn't have temperature, there are no lumps, she has no problems breathing and there is a little gas in her stomach. The vet also gave her a medicine for parasites. She pees more often, her poos are a little smaller than usual but wet and with good form. She is actually pretty happy and biting her cage for food. But she is losing a bit of weight every day and she is now 600 grams. Currently she is on baytril, meloxicam, degane and probiotics.
I'll see how it's going and I'll bring her back to the vets on Monday. Our next steps are X-ray and ultrasound. I'm thinking of bringing a sample of urine.
Do you have any more suggestion what else I should look about?
I'm worried because her symptoms are matching kidney failure and I don't want her to be uncomfortable or in pain but I want to do everything to be sure she had her chance.
I'm uploading a photo of her pee because it seems more yellowish than usual and a lot. For 8 hours she had made 8 puddles like this.

Hi

Is your girl drinking more than usual?

Mystery weight loss is personally my least favourite symptom because so many different things can be behind it. Kidneys going wrong in combination with increased drinking and diluted urine urination is one possibility. Not eating on her own is pointing towards a major pain issue somewhere in the body, as is the bloating.
Did your vets feel for signs of soreness in the kidney or the bladder area?

PS: What is degane? It is not a name I have come across so far.

Yes, the vet check her whole body and said she didn't feel anything. She was looking for tumor too. I'm not sure if she is drinking more - Alfie's always been a good drinker. I'm sorry, I thought it has the name name in other countries - degane is metoclopramide.

Hi, my late Eleanor had kidney failure and she had very dilute urine, drank a lot, peed a lot and lost a lot of weight.

As Wiebke says, the not eating could be a pain response.

I would see if she’s drinking more than normal (Eleanor was drinking a full bottle of water a day) Collecting a urine sample if you can won’t hurt but the fresher the better and make sure you keep it in the fridge until your vet visit

UPDATE: So we still don't know what's the problem with Alfie. She finished her antibiotics course, and she is still on pain medication and metoclopramide. Some days she is bloating and pass gasses then she is her happy self and producing normal poos. Fortunately, she hasn't lost more weight. We tried to stop her pain medication to see how it's going and she is not well today - she has gasses and as you can see - a mucus poo. So I went to get her more medication. The vets are telling me that we can't continue with meloxicam for any longer.
I am syringe feeding her, stopped all the veggies, giving her probiotics and massaging her. I'm looking for another exotic vet to see her too.
I just don't know if we can continue like this for much longer but she is happy, curious and looking for food so I can't just give up on her yet.
