so i’ve noticed on one of my piggies all round her mouth is crusty so her mouth is partially crusted shut so she can still eat just slower than normal, she’s fine in herself but as she’s still a baby it’s hard to get a photo so i’ll insert the ones i’ve taken. going to ring the vets tomorrow as i think it may be cheitilis, however the vet isn’t really piggie savvy so is there anything i should recommend she should have as medicine?
if anyone else has any ideas of what it could be or what i should do please let me know! x

I am not and expert, but it certainly does look sore.
It is good you are taking her to a vet as this needs a proper hands on examination and diagnosis.

It would help us if you could list your location in your profile as other embers may be able to direct you to a guinea pig vet in your area.

i don’t drive and the closest one is roughly two hours away, if i drove i’d be there even if it was 3 am! but with any problems so far the vet i go to has been good with them :) x

It would still be helpful to know your rough location.
Often members may be able to recommend a vet that isn't on the list, and it is also helpful for medication names, as these can differ in different countries.
We have members from all over the world, so county/state and country does make our lives a little easier, and helps up to offer better and more relevant advice.

i’m in wakefield in the UK going to try get her in at vets today, is there anything i can do to keep her comfortable in the mean time

There isnt anything you can really do - you need a vet diagnosis and treatment.

It might be worth just having a check of the diet though to ensure you aren't feeding acidic foods such as fruit or tomatoes as they can cause cracks in the skin which let infection in.

Let us know how you get on at the vet. I hope she is ok.

Hello. Hope you get on ok at the vets. How old is she (you said young). Does she have any other patches on her legs or by her ears or eyes? I’m only asking as I had a young piggy who had what looked like chelitis. But it spread really, really fast.

i feed tomatoes like once a week but she’s normally quite greedy so she may have been eating the others portions lol

she’s roughly 6 months old, and no everywhere else is completely fine!

Good luck at the vet today.
I would also start weighing her daily at the same time as this reply is the best indicator of how well she is eating.
If her weight is steadily dropping then this could indicate other mouth or dental issues, in which case she really would benefit from seeing an experienced guinea pig vet.
If it's just chelitis then I am sure your regular vet will be able to sort out an appropriate treatment fairly easily.
