My guineapig Moo ( neutered male 2yrs Old) seems to have an issue with his left eye. We think it may be an injury such as hay poking but we are not sure. we have only noticed this yesterday evening. Other days he was fine we are sure. (I have attached images at the end of this post)

His eye is staying open but keeps squinting slightly in discomfort. It is a little wet around his eye. There is also a ring of bloodshot around his eye and there is a small round white mark on his eyeball that isn’t usually there.

Also he isn’t completely his usual self he does seem to be in discomfort and is telling us squeaking unhappily.

Last night he also developed a little wheezy/ noisy/ whistley sound when he sniffs in and out of his nose which could be a slight uri.

Moo has had fungal skin problems in the past, particularly around his right eye in the past so we don’t know if that could of spread and it could possibly need an anti fungal for the respiration issue rather than antibiotics but he probably needs the antibiotics for his eye issue anyway.

Thankfully for now he is eating as normal and still moving around.

We have done a bit of research and think he might need eye drops and antibiotics to help with his eye and comfort. Maybe some painkillers and an antibiotic/antifungal if there is a slight respiratory infection.

What does anyone think?

We have booked a vet appointment for today anyway...

Thankyou so much!

Hi!

If it looks potentially bloody inside the eye (difficult to see from your pictures) and not normal, then please see a vet promptly over it. In the UK, eye injuries are seen as as soon as possible by vets.
