Hey everyone. We just came home a few minutes ago to find that my older girl, Oreo, has a red rim around her eye (I've attached a couple photos, along with a photo of her other eye that looks normal). My instinct is that this is an eye injury since it's only in one eye. I suspect maybe she's scratched herself, as she just had her nails trimmed yesterday at the vet so maybe they were too sharp? It looks like only the droopy part around her eye is affected (and she's had this droopy look for a couple years now). My question is that is this cause for emergency? Should she be taken in right away? Or since it looks like only the droopy bit was scratched, is it not as serious? Thank you for your help!

Please see a vet - yes it is considered urgent, anything to do with eyes always is

Hi and welcome

Any acute bleeding, especially in a sensitive area like the eye counts as an emergency. It looks like an possible injury (hay poke to conjunctiva?) Good that you are having him seen.

It is not at all uncommon that for the eyelids to lose little tension so they detach from eyeball and gravity is taking over. If more of the conjunctiva is exposed (the connective tissue around the eye), we talk of 'fatty eye' or 'pea eye'. This is perfectly harmless.

All the best.
