So my guinea pig has always had breathing problems ever since I've owned her. She's 2.5 years old and I've made vet trips in the past due to her breathing problems and the vet always ruled out a URI. She has labored breathing and a crusty nose most of the time but it's never stopped her from being active, eating, sleeping, interacting with me and her cage mate until yesterday. I made a trip to the vet yesterday because my guinea pig was pretty lethargic for the past two days and has a loss of appetite. During the vet examination, the vet ruled out a URI again saying that her lungs were healthy so it could be asthma but when I came home from the vet, her condition doesn't seem to be improving. I also noticed her feet are super bright red which wasn't like that until she become lethargic two days prior.
I'm going to re-schedule a appointment with a different vet because I don't think my current vet is examining her properly and throughly despite me being stuck there for four hours yesterday. I'm just really worried for her right now. I've been syringe feeding her and hand feeding her and she will willingly eat but not on her own. Anyone else have an idea of what could possibly be going on?

From what I know, breathing heavily could also be due to pain, not eating is also a sign of it. Piggies happily do their "business" while lying down and then sit in it without a care, in my case that is usually the cause of red feet. You say she is quite active, but perhaps she is lying down more? If it were me, I'd visit another vet and get a second opinion.

Someone more knowledgeable will come across shortly, I'm sure. But Lily, Rosie and I have our fingers and paws crossed for your piggy.

I’m sorry your girl is unwell. It’s good you’re going to get a second opinion. Have a look at the vet locator I’ve linked below. Please call them as soon as possible and get her seen as an emergency if possible.

You’ve started topping her up which is good. Try to do it every two hours as she’s not eating herself. You can use their normal pellets if you don’t have anything else to hand. You should also weigh her daily at the same time (preferably mornings before feeding) so you can keep track of her weight and adjust how much you give her.

You should also rule out any irritants in the room - perfumes, scented candles, air fresheners etc. I hope you get her sorted.
