Hi guys,

I'm thinking about possibly getting a third guinea pig to go with my two boys. I have a few questions though...

Do trios' get along well?
If I adopted another little boy, how do I introduce them?

Any advice would be so much appreciated :)

Sadly 3 boars rarely work out together.

I wouldn't risk trying to bond in a third pig as you may end up ruining the friendship with the two you have now. You may find you will end up with 3 piggies in 3 different cages!

Trios of boars very, very rarely (almost never) bode well - they will almost always result in fights, even if they seem fine to start with. If your 2 boars get along well, then I definitely would not risk adding a third boar and probably ending up having to separate all 3 boys, as relationships usually end up being severed (even between the 2 boars that originally got on). Several years ago, I learnt this lesson the hard way - ironically, following terrible advice from a non Piggy Bank 'rescue'! :( Hope this helps.

I am afraid i have to agree, but of course, if you had the space and time to devote to another piggy/Piggies why not look into rescuing a single or another pair? x

Trios are the most difficult constellation to get right without ending up with an outsider problem of some sort or other; with sub adults the success rate is very small as a fall-out of some sort or a major bullying problem is most likely. At worst, you can end up with three single boars that won't go back together.

The rule with boars is very much - don't rock the boat! If you have the space, looking to rehome another already bonded and stable boar pair from a good rescue is a much safer option.

We tried it and although it worked to begin with, it resulted in one of the boys being pushed out and bullied by one of the others :( We had to remove him and pair him with a baby.
