I took Poppy on a trip from London to Northampton today to the cat and rabbit care clinic today because she's had some complex dental problems which have triggered significant weight loss. Poor thing is very frail and only weighs just over 500g. I was so very impressed with the clinic and the teeth burring which was done without anesthesia.

My worry now is getting her to eat normally again as she hasn't been able to eat hay or anything for at least 3 weeks. She has eaten a few leaves at the vets and now at home as well. We've been advised to see how she goes for 24 to 48hrs with the 'normal' eating before supplementing with syringe feeds.

She is so frail and she seems to have lost her confidence with eating normally. I don't know how to help her.

Hello. I’m so pleased you got into the Cat and Rabbit Clinic. I went there two weeks ago with my piggy Pepper. He has a tooth root abscess. He’s not eating well at the moment because the antibiotics have knocked his appetite out of sorts. So I’ve been feeding him for 2 weeks so far.

I would weigh Poppy tomorrow morning and if she has lost weight from today then I would step in with a little supplement feed.

Try her with grass (dog pee free). Also are you cutting up her veg into matchstick size pieces as these may be easier for her to get in. Put hay right in front of her so it’s easily accessible. Good luck. It’s quite stressful helping a piggy that doesn’t realise you are trying to help them.

Excellent news! So happy Poppy is tucking in. I was there seeing Kim yesterday afternoon too, I think it was you I came over to to comfort as I saw you were quite upset. Glad to hear she is coping well x
It was. I was super worried because of her frailty and slow heart rate. Thank you so much for your kindness.

Hope all went well for yours.
