Hello,
So I took Holly and Willow to the vets today as they where making a funny breathing noise, thankfully he said the lungs seem clear and thinks it could be just a small infection and gave me 2 lots of meds, so now my confusion and I’ve rang and double checked but still asking for your a opinion.
So one of the meds he’s given me, the dosage is 0.5 and he showed me 0.5 on the syringe, in the box of the med ( they was a syringe included and that marks 1 to 10 and he said 0.5 is the little notch before the one) they is a huge difference between the two and I also asked that the bottle is 5ml and if I am using .5 twice a day on 2 pigs, the bottle is not gonna be enough and the vet said, they will be enough. So those who have given roughly the same amount, does the 0.5 look correct

Hi

Please do not use the metacam syringe on the right; the markings are for kilos in cats or dogs (depending on the concentration you have been prescribed) but they are pretty useless for guinea pigs which have a very different metabolism and need (and tolerate) much higher metacam dosages. The thickness of the syringes also differs so you cannot go just by volume.
The syringe on the left is a 1 ml syringe that is generally used for medicating guinea pigs.

Can you please give the clinic a call and confirm whether the dosage on the file is in millilitre (i.e. 0.5 ml), in which case it is up to the 0.5 marking on the syringe on the left. The receptionist should be able to call up the file and confirm this. ;)

PS: You can keep the metacam syringe on the right for emergency feeds - it is sturdier and lasts longer than a 1 ml syringe for syringe feeding when you cut off the tip as shown in our syringe feeding and medicating guide. It's always useful to have one them hanging round. ;)
