Hello,

Carter is 6 years old and in the last day or two has slowed down quite considerably and today has gone off her food.
Off to the Vets tomorrow but does this sound like old age to anyone?
I'm thinking the worst 'cause of her age.

Thanks

Hope all goes well at the vets - did they say what was wrong?

sorry to hear Carter isnt well.

hope she gets better very soon

xx

Get the vet to check her teeth as well as for any infection. Hope she will be ok, let us know x

Hi there and welcome to the forum from us in OZ :)
awwwwww sorry to hear about little Carter, yes it could be age but then it could be toofies or anything, i'm glad you're going to vets i'm sure they'll be able to diagnose and then you can help your little one x>>
All paws crossed that everything went well and that Carter will be back to munching happily again real soon, btw i've got a piggie who's over 6 as well and yes they do slow down, but if your piggie has attitude it's a great thing -c
Hope to hear more from you soon :):)

I think it probably is old age. I wouldn't think the worst because my sow slowed down at about 7 and lived another year and a half.

Hello,

Thanks for your replies.

Unfortunately Carter had to be put to sleep this morning. She had a number of tumours and was beyond any medical help.

I've had 2 guinea pigs for the last 6 years,( Regan died at the end of last year) and they have been the best pets ever, I would recommend them to anyone looking for a loyal, fun and easy housemate.

Thanks again

I'm sorry that Carter has passed away. He had a good life to have lived until 6 years - all credit to you. You did the best for him and our thoughts are with you x

I am so sorry tp hear about Carter. I am sure he had a good life though!

Do you think you will be gettng any more piggies?

Oh I am so sorry to hear that bad news, bless little Carter. I bet she had a wonderful life with you. Sending you big hugs hun.

Joy xx

Thanks all,

Jon, I think that's it for me and Guinea Pigs for a while-I get far too attached!
I'll stick with the rabbit I've got for now.

Just donated Carter's house and things to my local animal rescue place. Would recommend it, good to know it's gone somewhere worthwhile.
