Hello! I need some advice, my piggy Cleo is very sick at the moment, and I will be ringing the vets tomorrow, she is limping, has white discharge coming from her nose and jelly bits in her poop, due to corona I have not been able to work meaning I haven’t been getting any money! I am 17 years old and I cannot afford any vet treatments right now, I will definitely take her but does anyone know what will happen? If the vets will give me time to pay when I start working again? Or is that not how things work? I’m panicking and need some help😔

I am so sorry that you are in this position.
Do you have any friends or family that you lend you the money? You could pay them back when you get back to work. :)

Hi!

I am very sorry that you are finding yourself in this situation.

In the UK most vet clinics have payment plans. You will have to enquire. The PDSA will also step in if you are on certain benefits.
Please have a look at this information thread here which covers several countries: A guide to vets fees, insurance and payment support.

Here is our practical emergency and bridging care advice how you can support your girl during a crisis with what you have got at hand or easily available. Please step in with weighing daily and support feeding. Make sure that she is getting enough water, as much as she will voluntarily take. Also make sure that she is not overheating in the current heat wave.

All the best!

Thank you so much for this information! ❤️

All the best and fingers very firmly crossed!

Yes I could possibly ask family however I haven’t got a clue how much it will be😣
I am so sorry. :(
When I took my guinea pigs to the vet for the first time, I was super worried about it being costly. The vet was super kind and highly experienced. The vet bill was way lower than I ever expected.
I am keeping my fingers crossed and sending healing vibes your way. :luv:

I think the best you can do is be upfront about your situation when you call and see what they can do. Vets don't want to turn away sick animals, that's not why they get into the profession. Also, I would hazard a guess you won't be their first customer negatively impacted by coronavirus

Yes, I agree with the above. At my practice, you are much more well received if you are upfront about your situation first. We want to help your pets first and foremost and it is against our practice to let any individual suffer so I am sure they will see her regardless, but at least they can work around your budget and try to keep your bill low.
