Hi,

Ive had my little pig Edna at the vet this morning, she stopped eating yesterday and got very lethargic and has not pooped since yesterday, she not bloated but they said shes got some GI stasis.
The vet gave her an injection of Metoclopramide and Metacam and some oral stuff for me to start giving her tonight and some Emeraid IC to syringe feed her, the vet suggested i mix this with either apple juice or water, ive switched between the two as dont want to give to much apple juice.

Shes taking about 2-3mls of the emeraid every hour before she starts hiding and refusing to swallow,( i syringe my other pig Mavis daily for water intake so i know not to push to much it they start resisting to much) Do i need to add an extra few syringes of water for Edna for hydration or is the water mixed with the emeraid enough?

Thanks
Sarah.

I am very sorry to hear Edna is unwell 😞 If she isn’t eating her veggies or activity drinking from the water bottle, you will need to give her water by syringe. When I was syringe feeding my Ella Emeraid, I gave her 1ml water via syringe for every 5ml of Emeraid. It also helps to wash their mouths out

I hope Edna feels better soon x

Hi

HUGS

I am very sorry that Edna is so ill.

Please offer extra water, as much as she will take from the syringe; there is some in the syringe feed but the water can help with getting the cud down that builds up from chewing. Please do not just squirt it in as it cn easily go up into the nose or into the lungs. Usually it goes down better if it is a little very few syringefuls to help with the swallowing.
