I Have 3 Little babys living in my cage as of now, all boys and brothers.

But my guineas have a habit of pooping where there litter isnt, they poop in the corner where the food bowl is, and where their litter isnt, they also poop all on the wood!

My guinea pigs love to run around, so they usually mash up droppings.

As you see, I'm in a pretty nasty situation,
So is there anyway i can discourage the guys from littering where their litter isnt?

If you find out, can you let me know? My guinea pigs, (and I think I'm right in saying, most guinea pigs) just poop wherever they happen to be. Have a look at where they wee, and put their litter there, then at least you're getting most of the wee...as for poop. I poop-pick twice a day just to keep the cage looking ok, and it saves it getting 'mashed up'. Good luck!

Guinea pigs are notoriously hard to litter train, but they do tend to poop and pee more where they eat and sleep. If you keep litter trays under their hay and extra pads under their beds you should be able to catch most of the poops, but unfortunately most pigs will just poop anywhere anyway.

I think it would be hard to train guinea pigs to poop in a litter box. However, my husband insists that it is possible, and all he has managed to do is observe where they tend to like to poop (near food bowl, in dark corners), and move the litter box into that area. Unfortunately, as soon as the litter box is moved, my piggies decide to find a new place to poo. Even though they don't seem to poo in the same areas every day, they DO seem to like to make piles, and at the end of the day, we usually only have to clean a couple of piles around the cage. Try to observe where your piggies like to poop, and perhaps you can move the litter box to those areas; otherwise, just hope that they learn how to poop in piles that you can clean up.

I noticed that my piggies, now that they are older, tend to be more "clean" than they were when they were young. ie they make poop piles

Mine poop everywhere. Beds, litter trays, houses, ramps.. You name it, they poop there.

They do poop more where they eat so I have litter trays under each of their hay racks.

My 5 piggies just poop anywhere. GPs are poop machines. My grass is covered in it! I'm going to have SUCH a lovely back lawn next summer!

Welcome to guinea pigs :xd:

They don't really have a specific place, they just poo wherever whenever they need :P
Most piggies seem to poo where they're eating so you tend to end up with a pile in the hay, but apart from that... I've never heard of anyone litter training a guinea pig

Guinea ligs loo where they eat. Mine have a large growbag tray with hemp litter and hay in it and a cat litter tray and small dog bed with the some. I give them their veg and their fresh grass on these hay trays so thatbmost of their wee and many of their poos will go there.

They also have a large fleece area where they they like to chill. I spot clean every two days.

i have 8 cages all these groups are different, ive a group that only wee and poop in litter tray/or hay loft, others that just go where ever they are at the time they wish to go to toilet.i would take all the litter trays out for a week, observe where they pee and poop most ,place litter trays in these places and you will have better luck training them to use it.

I've kept piggies for over 20 years and never managed to litter train any of them! They wee and poo everywhere. It's amazing how much poop a small creature can produce and also how far they can spread it.

My boys poop everywhere but mostly around their food bowls. So i make sure i always place their bowls in the same corner and they tend to poop more in that area than anywhere else. It makes it easier to clean

They will always poop everywhere, you really can't train them heh heh.

HOWEVER, you can encourage them to poop in a certain place. Our "litter box" is comprised up newspaper lining, wood chips, and hay; it also has a fleece over it to make it dark. Piggies love to poop in the dark, because it makes them feel safe. And they loooove to pee all over there hay and then turn their noses up at it.

This is mostly a very good way to get HALF the poops and a LOT of the pee into the tray to reduce cleaning. They will still be messy because... they're pigs, haha. :) This is how we keep our cage from stinking from urine. Without it, it gets very smelly in a few days. With it, it doesn't get smelly for a week. You do the math! XD
