hello, it’s been especially hard for me to clean out my piggies cages daily, they do poopies everywhere and i’m told this isn’t normal for piggies and they usually pick a certain part of the cage to do them in and stick with it, i was wondering if anyone else had similar problems or if piggies just do it everywhere and not in a specific place? also how do i keep their cage clean without having to constantly go through bedding?

Haha piggies very rarely chose a toilet area. They go wherever they walk, eat and sleep. Some people use a litter tray with bedding under a hay rack to capture the worst of the wee's and poops but they will still go all over the cage too

Guinea pigs are little food processors - they eat constantly and it’s processed out the other end wherever they happen to be.
Poop picking is part of being a piggy slave.
Welcome to the forum and please can we see pictures of your little poop machines

Piggies poop everywhere, they can't really choose where to poop like a dog or cat as they poop literally 20 to 30 times per hour :) you can play the odds with a tray full of hay as they poop more while they are eating, but... they will still carry on pooping afterwards, in their beds, on your lap, on the floor...

Piggies poop everywhere! They do not poop in one place. Welcome to the world of the Piggy Slave!

I had indoor piggies on fleece liners and found that using a "hay box" helped somewhat. I mean there were still "magic beans" generally all over the place, but there was a concentration in the box.

(They loved to be able to bury themselves in hay  wish I had a photo of that!)

I also had extra liners in what might be loosely termed a "kitchen area" (basically where there was more hay and pellets) in / under any hide-y-things where they'd nap. It was easier to remove and shake out smaller liners (and put back or replace as appropriate).

Be happy for the poo! A pig that isn't pooing properly is likely to be a poorly pig :(
And fortunately it's pretty inoffensive!

I dont think I fully appreciated the joy of poops until my Puggle piggy had a potentially fatal bloat and gut stasis illness, where the guts fill up with gas then start shutting down and not working, poor girl almost didnt make it, then despite not being a very religious person generally I was literally praying for poops so that my little Puggle would be ok... we went from 1 stringy poop in 2 hours, to 6 slightly deformed poops, to 23 poops, to too many to count! Now I love seeing healthy poops everywhere, my vet often congratulates my piggies on the superior quality and quantity of their poops because they get lots of lovely hay to eat and have very healthy guts :)

In well over 20 years of keeping piggies as an adult I’ve never managed to litter train my groups of piggies. Granted, like @HeatherRose some groups have been less untidy than others, but most have been very liberal in shooting their pellets all over the cage and surrounding areas.

I have to agree with what everyone has said so far. I find that mine generally poo more in their hideys and close to wherever there hay is, but they do generally poo everywhere (and also like to catapult it around the room. I can't count how many times I've been like how did it get there? when I've found it half way across the room from their cage, and then I see them popcorning, hay flying about... and, well, that explains it).

For me, I've personally just had to relax a little. I do the best I can and don't mind so much if the fleece isn't completely spotless, has hay on it, etc., (my girls literally follow me around when I poo pick and poo right where I've just swept!)

Lots and lots of poop is just a part of owning piggies!

thank you all very much for all your replies, i had piggies when i was little but don’t remember them. i adopted these two off my next door neighbour who was going to give them away to the pets at home adoption bit, however there was a waiting list for them to be accepted and i know kids will want new pets if any so i took them off her hands, this piggy is apple, enjoying some brush time.

and this is my other piggy, crumble, who is enjoying some spinach, spinach is their favourite, both girls😊
