Hello everyone. Don’t laugh but should I be worried that Percy has a poop hanging out of his bottom a lot of the time? He’s absolutely fine in himself. Putting on weight. Eating really well. Eating lots of hay. They are not soft and are an ok length. He just doesn’t seem to push them out.

Sometimes this just happens, sometimes boars especially lose some of their bum hole muscle tone as they age- this can progress to impaction where globs of poops build up in the anal sac and need some help getting out... but if the poops are well formed then its probably fine or a very early sign of a possible future bottom issue. How old is Percy?

He will be 2 in April. Odd question. But do you think his testicles get in the way? They are quite large. 🤦🏻‍♀️ . Oh the conversations we have. Lol.

I believe impaction is more common in un-neutered boys, perhaps because of testicle sagging! I wouldnt worry, if there are clumpy poops stuck it is time for a vet check, but if the poops are coming out well shaped maybe he's just a bit lazy, like boys are :)

Thank you. That’s put my mind at rest. I did use to have a 7 year old boar with impaction. And it’s not like that yet 👍🏻 Thanks.

My Ollie boar who has slightly disabled hips and back legs has mild impaction because he can't quite do a proper bum squeeze, but he always clears it himself with a very special and quite smelly booty shaking dance routine :)

This happens to my Edward who is a 6 year old neutered boar but he isn't impacted at all. I just gently pull the poops out when they're hanging out of his bum to make him a bit mor comfortable but they mainly eventually fall out by themselves :)

Thanks Claire. Lovely Edward
