Evening everyone.
just a quick question about my male piggy. I think I’ve read somewhere this is a common thing but can’t seem to find the thread anywhere 🤷🏼‍♀️.
this past week or so I’ve been noticing my boar is trapping his poops inside his sac. I found around 3 today and had to pull them out (not the nicest of jobs) but it’s definitely happening more frequently. He’s actually due to be neutered on the 3rd of September so I hope this helps in a way. But is this normal?
He is cleaned and inspected daily so there’s no discomfort and poo is 100% normal.
Thanks guys

When neutered George was 3 1/2 he suddenly laid something akin to a champagne cork and promptly got his first bladder infection too. He is a big shy boy, and doesn't move around much, and he had developed impaction and his anal sac had become very baggy. His normal poops were glued together with the softer, slightly whiffier caecotrophs and all together the mass was impressive! I thought that he'd be better not being poked around while he was on antibiotics but watched him closely while he toileted for signs of peeing pain. After a little lap time one day I put him back on the floor and he went under a stool, strained briefly, and passed nine (yes NINE) poops in one go.

I started to check him daily and because his sack had gotten so baggy he was getting quite a build up every day and he looked like he was about to lay an egg! He was never completely blocked though so one vet had said to let him deal with it himself if he could, but another suggested daily assistance and I went with that because I was worried about another UTI (his penis actually hides inside his sack - don't tell him I told you this!) and over the past 8 months I found that things actually seemed to have tightened up a bit and he doesn't usually get such a build up. He's still fat but he moves around a bit more now. Mind you, we still get an occasional bonanza of about a dozen at one go! The impaction is where the soft poop bungs them up - in our case by cementing the normal waste poops together - so if all you found were 3 normal poops I wouldn't worry too much. He might be in the early stages and it's something to keep an eye on, especially after his surgery when he will be swollen and tender, but I suspect anyone's poops don't necessarily form an orderly queue waiting patiently for their turn!
