Hi All

I am hoping you'll have some suggestions of what to do...

Our lovely Boars have taken to pooing only in the blue plastic pigloo - so when I come to scoop up and have a tidy every morning and after work, there are hundreds of poos all piled up at the back of it!mallethead

I have a litter tray with their hay rack over it and have a corner litter tray too that we tried scooping all the poo into.

Now I know I'm lucky that they're pooing in the same place and not all over the fleece, but how do I make this habit a little cleaner? The pigloo doesn't fit in the litter tray and when I tried to 'overlap' it they obviously didn't think much of my interior decoration and moved it!

All suggestions are very gratefully welcomed!

Thanks in advance
x

My girls used to do this all the time mallethead I tried adding newspaper to it to make it easier to clean but they'd drag it out and poo straight on the plastic. I ended up getting rid if it cos they'd sit in there in their poo and wee and get dirty bums. :( Sorry I cant offer any suggestions to help you.

Mine have a favourite place to poo...at the back of their pigloo!
Maybe they like the privacy in there? rolleyes

Add a small fleece/towel that you can put under the pigloo and change them out everyday.

I've also seen some people make a small box from coroplast the same size as the pigloo and use bedding in the box.

Sorry, my suggest was only going to be more similar hideys! Not much help if they already have others.

I'd personally cash in on the fact they are poo'ing in one place and just put newspaper/megazorb hay at the bottom of the pigloo and change daily like you would a litter tray ;)

I bought a mini piece of fleece and put it under my pig's hut so every morning I pick it up to where the poops don't fall out and dump it out. I takes ten seconds. Just be sure to clean it often.

It seems that the back of the Pigloo is a popular place to poo- I have some coroplast left so this weekend I'll make a 'bottom' for the pigloo and a mini fleece to line it and see if that works - I can wash the mini fleece more often and that should save my big fleece from getting so pooey!

Thank you everyone - very helpful again! LOVE this forum! x

I use to place a fleece mat inside from the 99p shop so that they would sit, pee and poop on this and it wouldn't get on the plastic and at 99p each, you can stock up on lots!

I have recently changed bedding to fleece and towels and am loving it, but to try and add extra comfort to the bed/den area I filled it with carefresh, for some reason the carefresh bedding stimulated my pigs to pee and poo in their bed. So at the weekly change of all my fleece and towels, I didnt put any carefresh in the bed area, just left it fleece only. I bought a corner litter tray and filled that with carefresh, and surprisingly they both seem to be using the litter tray very well, I hardly have any poops in their den/bed or even the rest of their cage.
just somthing that might be of help, depending on your setup!:)
here's a pic of my girls Litter tray and it has already been cleaned out today

Sorry for a picture of a litter tray, but I am so pround of my clean girls, maybe carefreah just stimulates them to go there, who knows?:(|)
