Hi just wanted to find out how other piggie people transport piggies around at home.Just want to share about my fab piggies.x)
They are now all up to spec with pod transport at kidsgrove cavie palace..by pod i mean the plastic pods you can get for cages and runs with a snap on lid.
Having 18 go out for lawn time is quite a feat especially when i am home alone but they have it down to a fine art.:(|):(|)
For example: Oliver and Cindy
Step 1: Place pod in cage by this time they sense the journey and are up on the cage door ready.
Step 2: Pat pod and say come on oliver in your pod.Oliver duly runs in with Cindy following.
Step 3:Reverse- when in pen on the lawn.Pod stays in pen with newspaper and hay - incase it rains - and for the icing on the cake.
Step 4: When its time to come in i simply reverse the process and they all get ferried back home.

New piggies take few weeks to get use to the routine but they soon learn the ropes and get less stressed not being handled too much to start.
Piggies are so clever !and when my friend looked after them whilst i was away she was impressed as it made it easier for them not to be handled too much by strangers xx>>>xx>>>

I've got a similar routine with my girls but using the travel carrier. I put it in the cage and prop the door open. Then click my fingers reapetedly saying 'grassy grass' and they get in the travel carrier. I then put the travel carrier into the run (with the door removed) and they can use it for cover. When its time to come in they eventually get back in the carrier so I can put the door on and take them back upstairs. They learn the score that doing what is required means I don't chase them round and don't pick them up.

Some days though, they choose to have me run round and round the run trying to get them in the box. I think its entertainment for them:-)

Oh I will need to get into a routine like that with mine!

Yep, I have a routine as well. Getting them out the cage isn't easy but once cornered, they assume the position, one paw followed by the other on the first hand and lift their rear end in readiness for scooping. They travel to their run in their piggy carrier, which is put in the door of the run and they steadily saunter out onto the grass and then the hidey.

Getting them back in is easier, they have their routine so I just talk to them whilst I walk up to them then turn the run on it's side and repeat "piggy train"...one by one they walk back into the carrier, much to the amusement of my neighbours child.

Getting out of the carrier, they assume the position again for cage. No probs but it's taken a long while to get to that situation. Routine routine routine.:p
