Woody took a turn for the worse last night and was struggling to breathe, he was perfectly fine in the afternoon but 5 hours later he was in a very bad way.

I took him to my vets who have 24/7 emergency care and they rushed him out back for oxygen.

He has been with them for about 7 hours on and off of oxygen, they have done a chest x-ray which has made them come to the conclusion he may have a plural effusion as his heart wasn't visible on the x-ray.

The vet said his resp rate and temp is still lower than normal but he is still passing poo and seems to be making a big effort to stay alive which is a good sign.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I work in a vets myself so I know how serious this is but wondered if anyone may have any success stories to help ease my mind.

Poor little fellow, I hope he can be saved. You have good vets. It's frightening how quickly illness can become serious in guinea pigs.

Thank you, unfortunately woody passed away about half an hour ago. I checked on him in the morning yesterday and did my usual health checks whilst I gave his medicine and all seemed fine! He did have a long run with lots of health issues but of course had to pick a festive time of the year to go in dramatic fashion 🥲

BIG HUGS

Sadly, I haven't but I am holding you and Woody firmly in my thoughts. I am so very sorry that it wasn't to be.

So sorry to hear Woody has passed. You tried so hard to save him. Take care, as you say, this is a difficult time to lose your friend. Run free over the bridge little one 🌈
