Please Stop Using These As Hay Racks..

Hi everyone, a bit of a sad post here.

A piggie friend on twitter/Instagram (munchcrunchandco) has asked me to post this on her behalf as understandably it is a very sad thing to talk about. She wanted to warn others about it as it could save your guinea pig's life.

Her gorgeous guinea pig, Cookie, got her head stuck in the IKEA VARIERA carrier bag holder and unfortunately passed away. I wanted to get this warning out as soon as possible, as I know a lot of people use these as hay racks.

Oh no! I have one of these at home which we use just for plastic bags and I was going to see if I could use it as a hay rack but definitely not anymore. Poor little piggy.

Very sorry to read this. Unfortunately there have been many fatalities caused by various hay racks through the years reported on this forum.

How very sad

I don't use any kind of rack, worries me too much. I just stuff a load of hay into a pet carrier, twice a day, and give hay cakes too.

I stopped using racks a few weeks ago after hearing one too many bad stories about them. I have never used the IKEA ones though. I only have these in my house for all the plastic bags! Poor piggy, I hope people stop using them.
