I'm new to this so havnt quite got the hang of it, but hopefully this is right haha. ive recently purchased a 2 story hutch for outside and ive bought everything to fill the hutch, just not got the guinea pigs yet! my question is can i keep them outside all year round? i would have a weather proof cover protecting the hutch and i will use heat pads, cosy beds etc, the only possible way of taking them inside in winter is putting the hutch in our small outer house we have in our garden, would that be the best option? we could also place a heater inside the outer house, thanks.

I would bring them into the outer house in winter and still use stuff yto keep them warm

Hi and welcome!

I would strongly recommend to put your hutch out of the weather into the outer house during the colder months. They will still need heating.

Please also make sure to place your hutch away from the worst of the sun and any heat traps in your garden in summer. Guinea pigs can suffer heat strokes, too!

How big is your hutch? Two guinea pigs need a minimum of 2x4 ft ground space per floor.

Have you considered getting your guinea pigs from one of our recommended rescues? They are by far the safest place to get guaranteed healthy, carefully bonded and not pregnant piggies from, so you can avoid neatly all the usual pitfalls that await the unwary. The rescues we have listed are all piggy savvy and will not pair you up with piggies that need an experienced home. You will also get support during the settling in period as well as throughout the whole life of your piggies.

Hi hazzas,
my guinea pigs live outside too. We are moving them to a garage soon, they have a snugglesafe heat pad, House insulation on the back and sides of the hutch, we have covered the wire mesh with bubble wrap, we have a scratch and newton hutch hugger but these ones are better: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4FT-RABBI...S-HOUSE-/251266586737?ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT. We have done many more things but I can't list them all here! This you tube clip is brilliant for cheap and easy ways to insulate hutches:
I hope this helps!
