Hello, I have a 4 month old baby guinea pig. I rescued her from someone neglecting her. My wife and I fell in love with her. She has a swollen vagina and is in extreme pain, crying for the past 2 days non-stop. Eating normally, not wanting to drink be much. My wife has been getting her to drink via dropper. She is a very small guinea pig. Less then half the size of any other I've seen so far. We have called 20+ vets and all want hundreds just to see her. We don't have alot, but we love her so much. She's our baby we never got. Someone please help us, tell me what we can do to help our baby. Urgently needing help. Thank you .

So sorry your piggie is in so pain. Have you tried local rescues? They may take your piggie and get it the veterinary treatment it needs. There isn't anything you can do at home.

If it helps, here is the Guinea Lynx vet list for the Los Angeles area (you might have to scroll down a bit to find your area). Veterinarians: California - Guinea Lynx Records

Would it be possible to set up a plan with the vets so that you can pay in instalments?

She will definitely need to see a vet as soon as possible though. I appreciate that times are tough and this is easier said than done.

I was told to this is a normal cycle of a new baby Piggie, but she's crying so much. Will we lose her if we call a rescue?

Pain and swelling is not normal for a 4 month old (or any age, to my knowledge). Could you upload a picture of her bottom so that some of the more experienced members can see if there's an obvious problem? We can't diagnose anything online, and we are not vets, but it might be helpful.
You would have to ask the rescues directly about who would own your guinea pig, but all will have your piggy's best interests at heart and just want to help you and get your guinea pig the treatment and pain relief she needs.

It's absolutely not normal for a piggie to be crying in pain or swollen. Your choices are, ring a rescue see if they can take her for veterinary care or ask a vet for a payment plan or ask if you have any family or friends to help out. She can't go without seeing a vet if she's in so much pain. You absolutely love her, but sometimes that means making a hard decision for what's best for her.

I see by your profile you're in LA, are you able to have her seen at the Los Angeles guinea pig rescue? I don't know how it works but they do low cost vet clinics and if you can get there, I'm sure they would help. The rescue itself does health checks, nail clipping etc so should be able to give you an idea of where to go from there.

Good luck I hope you can get her seen as soon as possible.

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry for your predicament. Vet care is the biggest budget part in any pet's life. :(

This is not normal and could be a potentially fatal pyometra (infection of the womb lining/childbed fever) or - although she is awfully young for that - a stone stuck in the urethra just before the exit. A urine infection (UTI) doesn't usually come with any noticeable swelling but lots of screaming when peeing and reddish urine.

Any piggy in pain needs to see a vet as the underlying cause needs to be addressed. Signs of Pain in Guinea Pigs

Please contact Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue. You may be asked to give her up but please see that as your most loving (if heart-breaking) gift to give your little girl a chance to live instead of letting her suffer in agony. Sometimes there are sadly no easy solutions. The situation is not your fault as you have obviously bought an already ill piggy and there is nothing wrong with your heart or your search to find an affordable vet.
