I have this KALLAX Shelving unit White 42x147 cm - IKEA but lying on its side and double the height, and would like to find a cage to fit on top, as we are short on space!

I have been looking at c&c which would be 70something cm deep and the unit is only 42cm deep. I could probably position the cage in the middle but id rather find something that fits better in case they knock the cage off as they are chasing each other round! The other option is to add something to the unit to make it wider or a piece of wood on the top then put the cage on top if i cant find anything that 'just fits'

I have two boys and would like something with another level as they like going upstairs in their current cage.

Max length can be 147cm

I have been eyeing up this cage Plaza 140 Small Pet Cage but after looking at c&c this kind of looks really ugly!

I think the problem you're gonna run into is with the depth, 42cm isn't a lot to work with. Is there any possibility of moving the unit out from the wall slightly, to give you more room to work with? Although I know that could cause stability problems unless you found a workaround for those too.

Yeah I think I'm going to have to pull it out then add a sheet of wood for stability! Ive just been looking at @Flamestriker 's c&c cage and I have to say i dont think i could just have a shop bought cage again, I love how theirs goes round the corner, and I'm thinking I could buy one of the square ikea units and add on even more :p so I think c&c has to be the way as I'm no welder and making some kind of frankencage just wont work!

You could have a shop bought cage that goes round corners too :)) but those have a 70cm depth and I wouldn't advise them on anything less because of the canvas bottom.

Why would you be using it as flooring, especially if you're placing a cage on top of it? Think of it as a table, or a table replacement, just one with very specific dimensions.

@Lorcan what is the canvas cage setup you have? I havnt seen that before!

That's the Midwest guinea pig habitat, I'll have to get on my pc to see about a link. Gimme a sec.

@Lemmy Sorry, linking stuff on my phone is a pain and I hate doing it, too lazy for it heh. Keyboard and mouse ftw.

Ive found it for £55 on amazon, definitely one to consider! thank you

You said you have two ikea shelves, right? Can you put them side by side so the depth would be 84cm? That would be better for boys too. A cage too narrow can cause them to fight.

Edit to add: see the cage on this thread.
c&c in progress
