Hi everyone, Ok I’m actually really scared rn. I was stroking Lenny, one of my guinea pigs when I noticed this sort of sticky area really far down his back. I hadn’t noticed it before but then I also haven’t really interacted with Lenny for a few days now because , as I assumed earlier, I thought it was because i have been playing and interacting with my other piggy more recently because Lenny had sort of become more shy and timid again and I didn’t know why , but now I’m guessing it has something to do with this thing on his back. I think he might be in pain and irritating him. But I have no idea what this is. I’ll post a photo underneath here. I’m booking a vet appointment tomorrow morning but I was wondering if someone has seen anything like this or knows what it is?
To clear things up,
Now that I think back, Lenny sort of hasn’t been himself recently.
He’s also suddenly become more shy and skittish over the last few days.
And of course I’m most worried about that thing on his back. Please tell me if you have any idea what this is 😟
Thanks ,
Me

Also I forgot to mention earlier, he’s eating and drinking perfectly fine.

It's good that you are getting him a vet appointment in the morning. Let us know what the vet says. If I'm at all concerned about my piggies it's off to the vet we go.

Hi please don't panic. This is his grease gland its totally normal.

Thank you :) but I think it actually was just a very greasy grease gland 🤦‍♀️

Thanks so much everyone 😂 after all I think I just panicked and was a slightly over dramatic piggy mum. I haven’t had guinea pigs before these two so I didn’t exactly know what it was but it turns out it was actually just his really dirty grease gland. 🤦‍♀️ sorry for the panic guys 😂
The relief when I read your responses telling me it was just a grease gland. So I researched some more and indeed it was , just a very dirty and greasy one. But I’m so happy everything’s fine with him 😂
Thanks guys :)

That's the location of the grease gland- some pigs have a more active grease gland than others. One of my pigs had to get regularly washed because her grease gland would get gunky and others you can't even see where it is. Hope this helps!
