Quick question:

Is a baby playpen suitable for Guinea pigs? I want to upgrade my babies playpen to something better. I want them to stay as cool as possible in this heat.

What playpens do you recommend?
Is the plastic transparent one any good?

I think it might be big enough, but that depends on how many piggies you have. (?)
If I remember correctly, I think the min space for 1 guinea pig is just over half a square meter. But personally I think that's too small.
I may not be remembering correctly... 🤔

I have 2 :D yeah, I want a lot of space for my piggies, since they have their own room. So I want to buy them a bigger play pen. So will a baby playpen be good for them as well? Since it’s hot these days I want them to stay as cool as possible, and the normal play pens don’t protect against heat. But i also don’t know if a baby playpen will LOL

No playpen will keep them cool. You need to use cooling measures to keep the entire room cool. The guides below will help

The playpen your link is fine but as you have two boars, then it is a little too small. The pen in the link comes in at 5ft x 2ft which is only the minimum size cage we would suggest for a boar pair. Boars really need 6ft x 2ft. It also depends on whether you want their playpen bigger than their cage - ideally yes so it gives them additional exercise space otherwise if their playpen is the same size as their cage, then they aren’t gaining anything during playtime. It depends on what you think about that though, and how big their actual cage that they live in is

I was planning on connecting their current playpen with this one, and expand it a bit more🤔 as I’ve stated previously, I want to give them as much space as possible since they have their own room and there’s a lot of space left to be filled LOL

I just wasn’t sure if the plastic material would be good for them.

I have found a solution for the heat. I will be buying window blinds tomorrow where it blocks out heat from entering into the room! So good to go on that one :D

That Sounds good

Black out thermal blinds will help but there are several other measures which can also be taken. The cage is open topped so should be ok, but it all depends on what temperature the room is getting to.

Not too cold, not too hot. If I’m hot/cold, it’s the same for them LOL. I’m in their room majority of the time so I am always aware of the temperature in there.

Thanks for the suggestions!

:agr:

Yes, it would be handy to use a thermometer in their room. Just to make sure the temp stays no lower than 60 degrees and no higher than 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
