Hi so currently my guinea pigs are in my bedroom (6 x 2ft cage) and I'm planning on moving them outdoors because they'd have lots more space. I'm thinking on a playhouse with an attached run. Maybe an 8 x 4 run or bigger. This is the playhouse I'm thinking on Kids Playhouse 4x4 does anyone have this playhouse? Would you recommend it?

bumping this up for you. How many piggies do you have?

@Sportbilly I have two female Guinea pigs. Also what is the best thing to insulate the playhouse with?

Am tagging @BossHogg and @ayemee for info on insulation and outdoor piggy keeping they both have awesome set ups

I used the space insulation blanket, I tacked the blanket to the wall of the shed, then screwed the walls of the hutch over it to keep it in place. ;)

@BossHogg I'm not planning on using a hutch at all, could I just nail it up and put plywood over it? do you have any pictures of your setup?

That's just as good, plus it will be a lot warmer for the piggies. ;) Yep, it's in the housing forum in the hutch topic. ;)

Inside my shed I use bubble wrap and I'm planning on putting a layer of it between the shed wall and a thin piece of mfd board. So it's an extra layer of insulation. Otherwise I use snuggle safe head pads, cosy beds and boxes full of hay to snuggle in :)

Thought I may be a tiny bit helpful here as I got a playhouse last week or so, I will link my Instagram as I have videos etc on there, my playhouse cost only £200 and has a stable door great for adding the run panel I have to create ventilation, it has 4 windows and it's perfect sizing of 5ftx5ft doe my 3 piggies .. Can't say I have seen my pigs happier and surprisingly it stays a perfect temperature will hopefully add insulation in winter 8.1K Reasons To Wheek! I've just looked at your Instagram page and you have some gorgeous photos on there x

Thanks for all of the replies. Those pictures are excellent,The playhouse I'm thinking about getting is 4 x 4 for two sows and I might add a run on to it,next year.

Fantastic pics, and love the play house, they seem very happy.:luv:

Thanks so much! Would have loved a shed but playhouse had a lower roof so parents allowed it.. That is a great size for 2!

I'm planning on going for a playhouse mostly because it's cheaper than a decent shed. I'm going to focus on preparing it for winter this year, and for next Spring I'm going to add a run on to the side of it.

Great idea, my playhouse only came to £200! It was from GardenBuildingsDirect defiantly worth looking in there, they do great playhouses, or b&q do a really cute playhouse for £150 or cheaper can't remember, I got mine done in a few days. Just got to install a solar panel light.. Pigs are very happy pigs, hope yours will be too!

@Littlewheekers Unfortunately those places aren't an option because I'm in Ireland but there is a B&M bargains in Derry which is an hour away. I'm thinking about a 4 x 4 playhouse from there which is £110. The pigs are in my bedroom at the minute, but the cage takes up loads of space(6ft x 2ft)

Oh, yeah I have 2 nearby like both about 20mins or less away! Sure they'll love it all!

Hi there,
I had to move my piggies outside into a shed as my partner was allergic to the hay.
I would insulate the play house as they do get cold and draughty in the winter.
I have a shed and have insulated it using u-foil and some loft insulation. You must be very careful that the piggies can't get to it, mine is then boarded using ply wood.
I will upload some pictures of the materials I used.
Hope this helps

Do you know you can actually buy plywood with polystyrene insulation glued to the back? Then all you have to do is cut the pieces to the size of the walls and fasten them to the walls of the playhouse using screws. ;) something like this ;)

That is why I used this, the insulation is covered with foil so you don't touch it direct. ;)

Hope you don't mind me butting in, how much is the space blanket you use? Trying to persuade the parents to let me take over the shed so it might be handy to know c;

At the moment it's £14.99 a roll in Wickes, but if you shop around, you may get it cheaper. At the time I bought mine, it was on offer buy 1 get 3 free! so I snapped their hands off. ;)

This is exactly what I wanted to do, was looking at a shed and it was huge but £700 is a lot of money... I think a play house would be a better option but I don't know if it would be too small as I would like to grow my herd and keep their hutch in the piggy house. If it were to go on the grass, you'd have to put in a concrete base I imagine? Also, what sort of Lino could you use for flooring? Don't mean to hijack your thread, I did have my own but it didn't really work haha.

As far as I know, just ordinary lino is fine. You can get offcuts for cheap prices. I don't think it has to be on a concrete base,I think raising it up on bricks is ok. I'm going to have a look in B&M bargains and a few other places and if I can't find a playhouse for a reasonable price,I will probably keep them indoors,at least this year anyway.

Yes finding a reasonable one is hard, especially finding a reasonable AND good quality one. I'm looking at an 8x6 shed and a 6x4 play house atm, they're around £200 for each of them so debating which to get, I'm leaning towards the bigger one but unsure on quality. Don't really wanna buy online but a local place is doing them for about £700 and I can't afford that lol.

Thanks for the advice!

@Cavy Kung-Fu I did have a shed(6 x 8) that I got for free because it wasn't being used but I had the piggies indoors and the weather destroyed the shed but If you can I would go for a shed. I'm thinking playhouse because it's for 2 guinea pigs with no intention of getting more. I'd go online every time personally, much better selection for a better price.

@Cavy Crazy yes I'm going to try and protect it as much as possible with creosote and hope for the best XD I'm looking at this one: 8 x 6 Value Wooden Overlap Apex Shed

But I don't know what it would be like. I want the hutch to go inside too so in winter they can spend the night in the hutch and run around the shed during the day, and on nice days go out into the attached run which will hopefully have some sort of sliding door so they can get in and out... I have much planning to do XD
