I have my cage set up with the food/hay water and then the other side is a little sleeping pouch and a hay hideaway. I am noticing my guinea pig is pooping a lot more it seems like in the play area than he is where the food actually is. Is that normal? or is there anything I can do to change that so he isn't pooping as much where he is also jus hanging out?

No there is nothing you can do. Piggies cannot be litter trained and will poop wherever they want to.
All you can do is poop pick the cage twice a day to ensure cleanliness

I have one boy who poops anywhere and everywhere and another who tends to have a couple of neat piles, he also manages to dispose of them either out of the cage or on his neighbours side.......
