I have two guinea pigs and have dad them for about two and a half years. Recently, I noticed a pink Spot under one of my guinea pig's eyes. I haven't seen it before, so I'm wondering if it is bad or if I just have never noticed it before.

I’m no expert, but it could be fatty eye/ pea eye. That’s where the eyelid pulls slightly away from the conjunctiva exposing the conjunctiva. If it’s pea eye or fatty eye, then it’s harmless, but if in doubt it’s always best to consult a vet. If it worsens, turns red or starts weeping, then see a vet as soon as possible.

Ooooh s/he's beautiful :luv:
Think I'd take her/him to a vet & get it checked out, I've had a few of my girls have had a similar thing going on with their eyes, it looks a bit like an inflamed/infected conjunctiva.

As Vicki A suggests it could be harmless fatty eye , but would probably have shown more gradually. If you haven't noticed it before its probably more of a sudden condition.

Usually either a mild hay poke, foreign body or allergy induced conditions have been blamed for my girls when it's looked similar.

Normally they're prescribed isathal or tiacil eye drops & within a few days they're back to normal :) but it's usually a 5 day course of drops.
Eye drops are quite expensive, but in my own experience I'd be optimistic that your gorgeous guinea would be fully recovered quickly.
Xx

Hi

You will have likely not noticed because is hasn't been there before or has developed so gradually that you will have easily missed it.

It is just the lower eyelid falling away and exposing the conjunctiva; something that is harmless and not all that uncommon, especially in older guinea pigs. There is no treatment. It usually called fatty eye or pea eye.

If in doubt, please see a vet at your convenience during regular opening hours for a potential conjunctivitis. The conjunctiva doesn't look irritated or swollen to me, though.

Ok! Thank you so much!
