The girls came in yesterday but the only space big enough for them is my room. Okay so i'm not here most of the time but when i am i am here I can't sleep through all their noise They spent most of last night rumbling, chewing and banging the bottle.
If they are keeping the house awake they may unfortunately have to go back outside covered up as we don't really have any alternative spaces for them.
Has any one got any suggestions? X

You get used to it!

I give mine their veggies and a huge pile of hay just as I'm going to bed - it seems to shut them up long enough that I can get to sleep!

Drifting off to their munching sounds is quite relaxing zzz

Amanda is right ,it can be quite theraputic listening to munching - again as Amanda says,a big pile of hay and some veggies,or if you feed veg earlier a large blanket over the cage an hour before you go to bed sometimes helps to get them settled and ready for bed,a bit like with parrots.

Throughout the bonfire night weekend, I kept my four in my room. I found that if i stayed still for long enough they would all go to sleep zzz but whenever i turned over in bed or coughed, they would all squeak and would take ages to settle down again.mallethead
As much as i would like to say keep them inside, if you can’t deal with the noise, there are lots of ways to keep them outside where they stay happy and warm xx>>>

Well the good news is they didn't wake anyone else/keep anyone up last night so it looks like earplugs are the best bet. They had a fleece over the top but were still nosiy, i think they are re sorting their dominance as it is a new environment. Hopefully when Esme and Rosie have figured out the ramp there will be less squabbles.
Just out of interest what do people use as bedding? x

mallethead mine live in the front room and when people stay over they often tell me how noisy they are in the night :red

i'm someone who sleeps better with noise going on so it works well for me. :))

I wish I had the sound of guinea pigs in the night, it would be far more pleasant than my husbands snoring! My advice use earplugs, I sleep like a baby with them in but always hear my alarm clock through them in the morning :))

Its not so bad when they are munching, but when they start rumbling and chasing thats a bit less pleasant ;)

The piggles don't bother me at all. Its Noodles (the hamster) that is the noisiest one.
I usually give them fresh hay and food and water just before I go to bed. That way they're munching on that while I'm trying to get to sleep :) Once I'm asleep then its fine. They can make as much noise as they like :))

For bedding, I use huggies dry nights bed pads (2 to a 140cm cage) and hay on top. I'm contemplating going back to wood shavings though. I'm never satisfied!

I made a mistake tonight. I just cleaned J&C out before bed and put fresh hay in....

Jeffrey is now popcorning in the most clumsy, heavy footed, ungraceful fashion, in their cage which is on top of Dave and Maggie's cage. Noisy isn't the word!

You do get used to it, and I can say that as when my 3 were alive they were in our room for a couple of years and now Puck the hamster lives in our room. I rather like hearing the noises etc if I happen to wake up.
Warning though, never get up on demand-if my girls ran out of hay or fancied noms Storm used to bang the metal hay rack really hard against the c and c grid, by pulling at remaining hay to pull it away from the side and then letting go. She had learnt that mummy would get up bleary eyed and give them something nice :))
Seems to be all animals actually, Toffi the cat has woken me up at 6am today and yest as she wanted to go out, somehow Mr P can sleep through meows from downstairs!

I'm using shavings all across now. Fleece was getting damp under the hideys and they didn't want to move so now they're shuffling everywhere. Esme who has never shown any dominance initially was properly strutting her stuff yesterday evening/night, rumblestrutting *brrrrrrrrr* and chasing *bang bang bang* poor Ruby to mount her rolleyes cue *squealing*.
And then little old Rosie I think was just playing with the water bottle banging it against the cage.
It was certainly a noisy night but with the help of some ear plugs I'm sure I will cope!

Been at home for a week. Earplugs are doing the trick, they haven't woken me up yet. Rosie is always the first to be wheeking when the alarm goes off at 7 :)

Glad you are getting used to them. I don't think I could sleep with them in the same room, although I have slept with poorly chinchillas in my room before now, when they have had to be isolated from the others. :)

I have mine next to my bed. For some reason as soon as I turn the lights out and get into bed, there's this shuffling noise from the cage. I had a look last night to see what they are doing. Kenny was bumping his pigloo across the cage and Charlie was coming the other way with his box house. Obviously they don't like the way I arrange things! Apart from that, they are very quiet. Never kept me awake.

Lol!

I have the same problem. I keep the guinea pigs and the hamster in the same room so people also complain about the hamsters too.

ahwwww bless them ,ldoing a moon light flit ,lol

Earplugs. :)

id not sleep without earplugs!

Ive got one guinea my single lad in my bedroom plus 2 hamsters!

They are pretty quiet, and I'm use to having them in here, if I go away its always too quiet!

I had to replace Wilfred's hamster wheel with a wooden one which is miles quieter but they are pretty good noise wise.

One of my past guineas Monty use to have to be fed before I went to bed otherwise come about 4-5am he'd wheek so loudly for his breakfast:))

Bedding wise Artie was on 70% fleece and 30% newspaper and hay but I've recently started trying the flooring/base bedding material from Dunhelm Mill the spongy matting think its called aqua-flex or something like that? So far so good as its so easy to brush clean compared to fleece. He has newspaper underneath, then the flooring/matting then his hay one end. I may return to fleece not sure yet.

i use a hemp bedding for the hamsters - really don't like megazorb and reckon the hemp bedding would be good for guineas too. I won't use shavings for the guineas. The hamsters do seem to like shavings, megazorb made them sneeze but I get the hemp as I feel its safer than shavings.

I don't think they would get far before they came back. The other day they got out of the cage and I couldn't catch them. it got to about 7 and this wheeking started up from under the bed, veggie time! I put the bowl in their cage and they climbed back in themselves. Shortest escape ever, they know their routine :))

We still have a part bale of shavings, which we are nearly finished. We haven't had any problems with shavings before, but I have been alternating between fleece and shavings. We haven't been able to have all fleece so far as the fleeces we have still need a few more pre-washes as they aren't wicking properly.

My plan is to have the fleeces with newspaper underneath and then at one end of the cage just newspaper and a pile of hay for them to play in
