Does anyone have any ideas... I have 2 pigloo's which I don't want to take away from them as I do use them sometimes to catch the pigs and also they are always in them.

They are so disgusting though, Fred is yellow from lying in his wee, I clean the pigloo twice a day already I did try Fleece pillows but they ended up soaked :(. I'm stumped for a solution any ideas?

Sorry no help what so ever, I had one for the girls but ended up getting rid because of that exact problem I got them a bottomeless hidey thing instead.

I seen this huge hidy bottomless dome thing in a pet shop in Glasgow and I'm now kicking myself I didn't buy it, I can't think of the name, I'm googling online, but with no luck, would you have any ideas?

Our pigs have so much in common, Jo! Mine are filthy too... I can't use any hidey with a bottom, but when I need to catch Chicken or Martha I put down the Oxbow hay hidey and they go into it (if I remove all other hidey things...) and then I can transport them.

How about puppy pads? I've never seen one, but maybe they could be cut to fit under fleece? They would be more absorbant than just fleece I guess...

Just get them an upside down shoebox for now! They nibble it too, and ca sit on top. When it gets peed on or eaten up it can be replaced! I use upside down plastic Ikea crates (Slugis) that I've cut openings into with a hot knife. They can be washed easily and are sturdy enough for Bo not to headbut away when a girl is asleep on top :)

I'm starting to think the yellow tinge suits Fred :)), he is disgusting... infact they all are, but they were bathed only a month ago and I don't want to bath them again... I swear I was looking at them earlier... thinking if anyone ever met my pigs they would think I ignore them, they smell :)>>>, and Wilma is even sporting some yellow on her face!

Think I will email Chrissi from gorgeous guineas to see if there is any shampoo I can use regularly and we all may have to have monthly baths.:)>>>

Savic do a Cocoon house similar to the pigloo but bottomless.

Just remembered I bought the girls a Waffle block house and they liked that.

I used to put about 5 sheets of kitchen roll in the bottom of the pigloos to soak any pee. It kinda works, in that it's easer to clean but it stays damp.

At the moment I've got a square of vet bed in mine, but will probably end up swapping it out daily.

Thats what Joey used to do when i first got him so i ended up throwing out the pigloo as it was horrid, but i have heard if you soak them in vinegar and water it helps to get rid of the wee stains. But you have to soak them for a few hours and then rinse/scrub with warm water and repeat it needed. :)

I know your problem - totally the same for me and Robin as he is a wee minger and just lies where he pees and poops. Makes him wet and smelly, not pleasant and means more baths which he doesn't enjoy!

I am getting a cavy cosy which will be easy enough to clean and the dens that have no bottoms so that if he wees then it goes through the fleece to the towel - I noticed you had one or two of those as well.

That is my solution to the problem...not sure if you're happy with getting more of those given you have one more pig to me...but yeh an upside down shoe box would work too :)

Just use the pigloo to catch them if it's difficult - that can still be a use for it?

I got them a cosy too, and 2 tunnels but because of my bank card fiasco I can't pay anyone till the new one arrives, but I shall hopefully have it soon.

I was thinking of this for the 3 of them, they would have additional hides but they do share sometimes....

Do you think I could sell the pigloo's? they aren't in all that bad condition, I clean them constantly few nibbles out one thats about it! Only bought them last month, when I got the girls :(.

Both those look good the first one would be dual purpose me thinks in or on.

You could always try selling the pigloos on here and see how you go wouldn't cost you anything to try.

Get some bottomless igloos. I have 4 or 5 of them and they are fine - never tried the ones with a plastic bottom and wont now thanks Jo.

And here was me going to ask if you wanted to buy mine :)), I should keep my mouth closed rolleyes. Just kidding :), yeah they aren't the best idea in the world.

I could cut the bottom out but in fairness I liked them because they had a bottom easier to catch piggies... but stinking piggies...now! rolleyes.

I thought when I used them alongside megazorb and hay they were fine. I lined the bottom with megazorb then put hay on top for them to snuggle in. Then again Robin had a habit of eating all his hay and kicking out the megazorb which resulted in him going into a rather manky pigloo once more.

So yeh...depending on the cleanliness of your pigs in conjunction to what type of bedding you use...they can be either very good or ridiculously rank! rolleyes

Totally agree mine are Rank... Dirty pigs :))

You could definitely sell them.

Also get the bunny size corner houses as I have the pig size ones and they are too small. That's a good rule for all the housing actually as the bunny size just fits bigger and long haired pigs.

the bunnie size would be too big for them to get on top of... would it not?

I still need to get my bedside table and they will be able to go under it so that would count as an additional hide and it'll have a shelf for them to use as an observation point.

I like the giant pigloo because they might sleep together but I'm thinking probably not... Think I just like the idea they might lol... Oh I wish my bank card would hurry hopefully by Wednesday, I shall be able to buy online again I can't wait, having withdrawals! rolleyes

Maybe it would be too high. Looking at the dimensions of the guinea one it does seem a bit bigger than the ones I have. I only use them now as they climb from the top of it to a bigger wooden box and into a loft hidey but none of them get inside the guinea corner house as too big. But like I say mine may be smaller than those ones.

i have botomless plastic ones i got them from pets at home they are actually advertisd for rabbits i wash them in some warm water with vinegar in an old washing up bowl

hi there!

I haven't read all the posts so apologies if I repeat myself!
Rather than throw the ones you have away (I have EXACTLY the same problem with my piggies) - you could either:-
1) put some Carefresh inside it for them to lye on and therefore soak up the wee. OR
2) Drill some larger holes in the bottom so any wee will drain out (might not always though), OR
3) Just cut the bottom out! ;)

Perhaps just sticking to putting some carefresh in there would do the trick and keeps them a bit dryer!
I sooo wish they were toilet trained, ha ha

I have the bunny size one and would definitely recommend it - mine have all been able to jump on it no problem and I often use it as place to put a pile of hay.

We have 1 pigloo, and have exactly the same problem - no newspaper, sawdust or hay will keep it clean. They don't seem to mind though - one of our pigs in particular seems very happy to wallow as long it means nobody else gets to steal her spot!

I have read this thread with a sigh of relief. My piggies lay in there pee. No matter how clean I keep them, they just seem to roll in the stuff.

Patch has white fur, so you can imagine the state of her!
