I had an amazing hour with the girls earlier...cuddles all around. Smudge was settled (for once) and Poppy is becoming a cuddle monster.

Smudge is the dominant piggy and loves licking me...from fingers to elbow on this instance. And it was not just one lick, oh no...I got cleaned and peed on all in the space of twenty minutes. It was bliss...piggy cuddles are the best (the only thing that comes close are hammy cuddles). But without the weeing!

What does this licking mean? Am I being groomed or is it salt?

It is sometimes difficult to say, but generally, a piggy needs to be happy and confident to give you kisses. Guinea pigs lick the eyes and the area around them when they want to express affection. You can return that gesture by gently stroking the area around the eyes.
How To Understand Guinea Pig Instincts And Speak Piggy Body Language

I have been doing that to them and very gently nibbling their ears (it was that thread I read ages ago and it is one of my favourites).

I also lift their noses when they do something that I don't like.

I can't believe that I went without piggies for so many years... But I am so glad that I have two now :)

I would think that it is mostly affection, anyway. Piggies really respond when you speak their language instead of expecting them to learn ours.
