Piggy Vandals! - Hay Racks

yeah I thought that but I do like to remove them when I clean their cage out.

Ha ha, My piggies also do this, I sometimes find them curled up asleep in it!
sometimes I just have to put the rack higher up, them they can only get it down if they are really determined.

Are your piggies in cages or hutches?

Only I have great hay racks for cages, plastic that clip on the outside, so the piggy only have access to the hay by pulling it through the bars, but not the actual rack.

Hope that makes sense!

could you tighten the metal loops that go over the bars with a pair of pliers? this would mean it would only get over the bar with some pressure.

You can buy reuseable cable ties? I gave up on the hay rack to be honest, mine just destroy them no matter what.

haha, mine seem intent on doing the same mallethead :))

never thought of re-usable cable ties though. ;)

C&C :(|) I know the ones you mean :))

Maybe you could use hay socks instead, much less mess anyway because it is all in the cage, and if you use funky socks they look good too. xx

I used to have one similar hay rack and it used to drive me nuts how they would always rattle it and pull it down.
I used to have an elastic band on the outside of the cage joining the 2 hooks so it would stay up.

I have since given up on the hay rack as I found that with aging pigs, they'd rather not eat hay than try to get up the cage bars...

could you explain that to me? Real socks stuffed with hay or something more advanced? I'm just thinking that it would help Maxy with his allergy... and get the pigs amused and entertained...

Use a coil spring wrapped from one end around the bars to the other end. Similar to a water bottle hanger it will stop the most determined piggy. Correct length is important, take your rack to the hardware store and ask for help. Best of luck

Yes a real sock with a bit of the toe cut out. String around the top and hang from your cage top or hutch wires. Stuff it up with Hay, and they love it. They are much better than hayracks on the outside or just inside cages where all the hay comes out all over the place. x

they've got 2 on the floor, cut the toes and heels. they were very surprised by the new gimmick, but they've settled. It doubles up as a pillow, it's great. Thanks

I have these racks I have squished the hooks slightly with pliers for the one on my C&C as it kept falling off. It seems to have worked!
