Hi!

Please see a vet; eye injuries (whether that is a hay poke or from something scratchy firmly stuck under a lid) can deteriorate very quickly and should therefore be seen as soon as possible. The damage is often larger than visible to the naked eye. In the UK, eye injuries will be seen as a priority by any vet.

Eye treatment and medication is the same in all common pet species, so any decent general vet will do.

Please can you get her to see a vet today if possible. It could be a hay poke (where a bit of hay has got caught in the eye at some point - it may still be in there or may not be there). When an irritant gets into the eye it can start to cause an ulcer. We can’t see that with the naked eye - the vet will need to use fluorescent drops and UV light to see if there is an ulcer. If there is an ulcer then the piggy will need pain killer/anti inflammatory medication and anti biotic eye drops. In the UK an eye like that would be seen as an emergency as eyes can deteriorate pretty quickly.
Hope you get on OK getting seen by a vet.

Isn't she beautiful! She may have poked her eye on a bit of hay which will be painful and unfortunately a risk of infection, best bet would be to have her seen by a vet who can give you some drops, it'll likely be back to normal within the week with those drops.
Eye issues can also be a sign of respiratory infections, however you would expect both eyes to be effected in that case, but its definitely worth seeing a vet for a definite diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
I hope she's feeling better soon!

Hope you can get seen quickly. I know Covid has made everything more difficult but hopefully your vets will still see a poorly eye same day.

hi! so i noticed that it seems like she's squinting a lot now but her eye just seems very red/pink. it's usually just white like the fur around her eye.

Please get a vet to see it as soon as you can. With eyes the singer you get it checked and start treatment the better. I don’t mean to scare you but eyes can go downhill very quickly.

hi! so we brought her to a super good animal hospital today. they have exotic specialists and we didn't totally rush it just because it was slowly getting a bit better but we thought we should still go. the vet we took her to is MSPCA angel animal hospital in massachusetts, US. we didn't need to make an appointment we just went to the ER and there was a 3 hour wait but they were all super nice and checked her out quickly before we waited just to take her vitals and stuff and make sure she could wait the 3 hours. her vitals were good and we waited and then the doctor checked her out. she was not a specialist in piggies but she still knew a lot about them and was super informative & nice. she checked her out and said that she did notice a bit of red and swelling but that there didn't seem to be any sort of infection. she told us she may have chlamydia (not like it is in humans in guinea pigs it's something that is transmitted from being around lot's of other guinea pigs at once which she was before we got her) but she said that's not definite. we paid an extra $70 to get her checked out by a specialist just in case and they both said she was okay which was a relief. they gave us two medicines, one that's a cream we put in her eye 3x a day and one that's a liquid we feed her orally 1x a day. everyone there was super super nice and helpful. i'm so glad she's okay and we are going to go back in 10 days if she's not back to normal. we paid about $250 total but i think it was definitely worth it. the doctors and everyone else there were all super nice and if you live in this area and are wondering where you should bring your piggies i definitely recommend MSPCA angel. anyways, cookie is okay and her eye is getting better. thanks everyone for all your help! sorry for the long post lol.
