I got heaps of piggy sewing done this weekend, but as usual I bit of more than I could chew so there is still beds and piggy cushions all over my livingroom awaiting assembly... Hopefully I can get some more done tonight!

This time I haven't done any cozies or tunnels, just beds and cushions as latley they seem to just rest on top of their cozies and tunnels! So I thought I'd save myself some time and space in the washing machine...

This time some of it is staying with me, last time I gave all away to the rescue to sell for fundraising.

I'll see if I can get some pictures up tonight!

Ooo looks like you've been and will be busy! Good luck with getting them all done, ive been making a piggie fabric assembly line in my living room too - as its nearly christmas and getting all the pressies ready, however i dont have a sewing machine so its been done by hand :( hope you have a sewing machine though ! :)) Cant wait to see piccys, might give me ideas of what else to sew next :)

Oh yes, I have a sewing machine... I hate hand sewing so if I had to do that I wouldn't do anything at all! I got if for my birthday from my mum. I think she had other plans for it than piggy sewing but so far it's the only thing I've used it for :))

AWWW - I can't wait for pics! I was so impressed by your last lot!

I have managed to handsew a couple of tunnels while in Wales, but like you say, they serve more as beds... rolleyes

Hehehe i love piggie sewing, i find sewing other non piggie related stuff very dull unless its baby booties and clothing, which is o so adorable tehee i guess i just like sewing for the cute and small! :)) Cant wait to see pigtures!

Right...

This is what 24 piggy beds look like on my floor when everything has been cut and serged with the batting... (it takes ages and it feels like you're not getting anywhere...)

This is what 19 piggy beds look like on my couch :) Five will have to wait until tomorrow... I know they look red but except for the one in the bottom right corner they're actually a warm fuchsia pink but the colour just doesn't show in this bad light. Oh and the one in the middle right has an orange centre :)

I love it Petra, I'm hoping to start sewing and the forum being so slow I'll have loads of time :))!

Ooo wowie, i love the rainbow stripy fabric, they all look fabulous! :))

wow, they look like shop bought, they are amazing, i wish i could do things like that,

They look so good! :)

I'm making like cushions for them to sleep on, because i made a tunnle for them but they got stuck :| I don't know why, but for some reason I thought they'd have the sense not to go through a hole they obviously couldn't fit through, apparently i can't make three for the little ones and two for the big ones they have to all be big enough to get the bigger ones through....how silly am I.

I want to stuff the little pillows with something, my first thought was hay, then I thought it'd be like putting cat nip in a toy for cats - they'd try to get it out. So that went out the window, then I was thinking some natural non harmful fiber?

OR, rags from old curtains and things like that?

They look so amazing, can you tell me how to do them? xx

skrikopanik : Those beds are gorgeous

I wish I had time / skills to do something like this.

Andy

I use these instructions and no, I don't speak German. The pictures make it pretty clear!

Lexybee, I uste cotton, polyester fleece and synthetic batting. If you stuffed with hay they would go disgusting after the first wee as you couldn't wash it. If your pigs are avid chewers you might be better off with all fleece as it doesn't make any threads that could get caught in teeth or tummies. Mine only chew plastic and wood, not fleece or cotton.

This time I pre-washed all the material (except for the batting) in 60 degrees and tumble dried so that I know it can take those temperatures.

And just to clarify, I got my sewing machine 6 months ago and HATED sewing until then. If I can learn to do this anyone can. And yes, there have been some fails along the way such as too small beds and tunnels, wonky seams (still are) and stuff that end up batting side out... but you learn from mistakes, right?

Wow, your beds are amazing. We are just starting to make stuff using the German instructions you have given and am in the middle of my first cozy. We bought a sewing machine too but need to learn how to use it first so am making the first cozy by hand. Sewing makes my eyes go funny though.

:) Thankyou for the stuffings advice. But, what is synthetic batting? Or Batting of any material? :| Sorry I souond really stupid, I never had sewing lessons and it's not been something I've ever really been interested in untill now ^_^

Thanks

xx

It's just wadding. You buy it by the metre. You don't stuff the bed as you would a soft toy. Instead the wadding is layered between the fleece inner and outer.
I buy the 99p a metre wadding from Dunelm Mill and use several layers as I sew by hand and find it easier but you can use thicker wadding. You can also buy it on ebay and in material shops.

thanks for the clarification, Flips! I used to be able to differentiate between American/British/Kiwi and use appropriate words but now it's all garbled up. I guess it's old age :))

Finished three more beds tonight. Two with blue denim outers and red fleece inners and the one that had red/white striped cotton on the outside and navy fleece inside. Pictures tomorrow when hopefully the two last are done too :).

Well your English is way better than my Swedish, although I can swear a little in Danish. :))
