Hi everyone :) first post here and a newish piggy owner, not sure if I'm being an over worrier or not!

I got two six week old female rescue pigs in April, and was devastated when one got poorly and wheezy very quickly and died within 24 hours a fortnight ago. We've waited this couple of weeks to get a new companion for Sully, our remaining girl, and I will be looking into it this week (any advice on that gratefully received!). Sully has been a bit out of character and we put it down to missing her friend - she is normally very brave and greedy, but now is hiding a lot and still eating lots but not as greedily as before. Last night she did a very forceful and cloudy wee on my lap (I checked on here whether that was normal and was reassured that cloudy wee isn't anything to panic about immediately) - but tonight she did another big wee on me and grumbled and squeaked just before she did it. I couldn't tell if it was cloudy or had blood in it this time, but we've put white paper in with her tonight to see if we can tell anything in the morning. Does this sound like a UTI to everyone? She hasn't been drinking excessively - in fact if anything she may be drinking less but it's hard to tell as we're still adjusting to only having one pig. We haven't fed her anything different to usual, maybe slightly more though (sympathy feeding after her loss...! ).. I'm wanting to take her to vet tomorrow, thinking I can't be too careful after losing our other piggie so quickly.. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd be very grateful!

I am very sorry for your loss; it can upset you and your bereaved piggy!

Have your girl checked by all means, but if it is UTI, it is still very early days. The cloudiness is not relevant; it is simply an excess of calcium that is being excreted. Piggies can make surprisingly large puddles. if there is blood in the urine, it is not necessarily visible and reddish urine does in the early stages of a UTI not necessarily contain blood - believe me, I have been there with piggies of mine.
You are extremely observant at the moment because you are so worried, so you are bound to notice things that normally would pass you by. It can take a few days until you know whether or not there is a UTI brewing or whether it is just one of those things.

Sadly, there are no piggy savvy rescues anywhere near you.

Thank you for replying so quickly :) I know I am being such a worry whale :mal: she's just so out of character we thought it couldn't just be because she's on her own now, but maybe it is..! Is there any link between excess calcium and stones? I'd be gutted if I've caused her a problem from feeding her too much of something..! and what kind of things might I be looking out for over the next few days..? Sorry to ask so many questions of everyone!
