So I've asked before but a picture might be clearer and help others who are still a little confused. I understand the whole size range thing and that a healthy guinea pig poo should be a smooth shape that it is firm enough but not hard and soft enough but not watery. Haha so this isn't really an urgent thread but does my piggies poos look OK? As I understand that our piggy faeces can tell us a lot about their diet. His poos are often quite dark when fresh (god this is a weird topic haha) but go lighter.

Btw the white on the fleece is calcium from his urine I belive most of it in the picture is from continued use of the fleece that will won't come completely out through washing.

Yes, they look very healthy to me. Every piggy has its own size; just keep an eye out to learn what is normal, so you can spot serious changes. These are normally squishy to formless poos running into fluid diarrhea or tear-shaped, stringy, or badly digested poos with a tummy upset. Badly dehydrated piggies have very dry looking poos that can get covered with mucus at the extreme. Poos are noticeably shorter and thinner if he is not eating enough.

Hmm i typed, can i hijack this post, i've been doubting a lot as well around my pigies poo's, their colour seems okay but they seem very dry, i don't know how normal that is

Looks Ok to me but if you realy feel there is somthing not right , get an air tight specimin container from your vet
collect a few random poos each day for 3 days and ask you vet to run a broad spectrum poo analysis

NB not a float , this will only show parisit Particals ! Tell you vet you want a broad spec analysis

:lol!: sorry this post on it's own just made me giggle so much...

@sport_billy maybe for the forum's facebook page we can take this post out of context and use it to promote the forum, it does kind of sum us all up :)) :))

How many other online forums can you talk about poo without either coming across as totally weird or disgusting?

Apart from Doctors and others in the medical profession, we can get away with it because a pooing piggy is a healthy piggy. Or at least we can see what is going on in the gut...

I just wish sometimes that they did not produce quite so much...but then I'd be worried that they were not pooing enough!

Sigh

Found some in my bra yesterday. But I did spend most of the afternoon and last night with various piggies on me.

Looks perfectly normal to me. Nothing wrong to talk about poop:) Just curious about what you are feeding?

@Annabellam I try to feed him a variety of veg and he gets a small bit of fruit each week like this week he's had a small chunk of apple. Other things he gets fed ever now and again is:broccoli, spinach, kale and celery. Usually he's regular salad has red pepper, cucumber and a lettuce leaf.

Please see a vet today!

Start topping up your piggy with offering syringe feed and water asap to prevent the guts from slowing down and stopping to work (gut stasis). The size suggests that he has eaten very little in the last day.
Our illustrated syringe feeding guide has all the step-by-step information, including what you can do in an emergency with what you have at home or easily available. Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

Weigh daily at the same time to monitor the food intake instead of the regular weekly weigh-in.

Wiebke i sit with them throughout ? They eat plenty ? They both get a bit more than a cup of veggies because they're only 3months. They eat hay non stop and if fill up their bowls they're empty in no time ? Should I maybe give more veggies, or pellets (science selective) or maybe different hay ?
I sit with them for hours and hours while i'm studying and not a moment passes that they are not eating (unless they are napping)

You hadn't mentioned their age - for adult guinea pigs these poos would be too small and a sign that they haven't been eating enough. Please make sure that you do that whenever you are posting in the Care section, as it can impact on our advice, whether that is health issues, behaviour or diet. ;)

aaaaaaaah sorry D: yup yup both were born in november so they're on the verge of 4 months now, my apologies!
