Hi,
Our guinea pig (male) started peeing blood 4 days ago.
We took him to Vet. Xray and ultrasound did not show anything wrong. He was put on antibiotics. The strange thing is that the next day his pee was normal. Then the next day he was peeing blood heavily. After that, the pee was ok again. And today he is again peeing blood. So basically since it started, he is peeing blood every other day. He did not loose appetite and seems to be active as usual. Does anyone knows what can cause this irregular “bleeding”?

A UTI can be inconsistent to begin with. Complete the antibiotic course and see if things improve. If not, consult your vet again.

Ensure you switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily so you can more closely monitor hay intake (which you cannot judge by eye) during a period of illness.

I agree with the above and would just add that although blood is only visible every other day it is quite likely that it is present every day but at lower levels, which would show up on a dipstick test

Thank you, we are watching him closely. Good to know that the UTI can be inconsistent. So hopefully he will get better soon.
